    Found this in the internet:

Samhain is pronounced "sah-van", although many neo-Pagans pronounce it as "sow-in" (where "ow" rhymes with "cow"). Samhain is Irish Gaelic for the month of November. Samhuin is Scottish Gaelic for All Hallows, NOV-1.

Of interest might be Matt Newsome's thoughts on Halloween and costumes from his blog:

    http://blog.albanach.org/archive/200...r_archive.html

Here is an article he wrote about the holiday and how the older pagan aspects intersect with modern Christian ones:

    The Teacher in a kilt

... and I love reading Alan's messages! If the LA school district had about 1000 clones of Alan it would no longer be graduating idiots. If that isn't available LAUSD should hire Alan to train its teachers. But I guess both ideas belong in fantasy land. (And wearing the kilt while doing either!! Can you see it now, 1000 clones of Alan, each wearing a kilt!! Alan, I would ask you to give LAUSD a call, but you would probably scare them to death with your approach to educating kids. Our kids might learn something from the man wearing a kilt - horrors!)

A kilt is for everyday and not a Hallowe'en costume. That said I will be wearing my black heavyweight kilt on 31st October as I will be in court, so if I do have to greet any trick or treaters I will also be kilted.

    Sneak in a little knowledge.....

I tend to agree here. If going to any function, solemn or casual, while wearing a kilt, someone is bound to have a couple of questions. This is the point at which the kilt can be viewed seriously; in a response to a sincere question. This spreads knowledge and dispells ignorance. I wouldn't be surprised if one of these seemingly casual conversations leads an individual to discover the joys of the kilt and our brotherhood grows because of it.
