I am going to line to about halfway down from the fell, because I want as little wool touching Sinbad's legs as possible (but don't want the lining to show). He says, "Mommy, this kilt makes my legs feel like they are going to sneeze!" (and yes, this is quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever heard).
Kids are wonderful! Thanks for the reply again. I sympathise with Sinbad, as I too had a reaction to wool as a small boy - I grew out of it in my early teens. Here's hoping that Sinbad does the same.

Now, how do I get that drink to you from across the pond?

    Best regards

I finally found some time to work again today. Pulled out my first attempt to look at the lining

Turned it over to get a view of the lining, slightly folded over the edge of the under apron

And Smudge promptly decided to "help" me

Ironing the hem/edges of the lining

I realized at this point, that I really needed to get the belt loops on before sewing the lining in, sooo.....

Finding just the right swatch for belt loops

Lining it up to match the waist band

Ironing the belt loops for sewing

Deciding whether to bring out the white stripe

    Or hide it entirely

I decided it looked better hidden

    More to come...

    I Finished!

I hand sewed the belt loops

And sewed them onto the waistband

    Here's a preview

Here they are, on the kilt

There were a few distractions during this process!

So I could use that drink!!!

    And, so, I lined it

Sewing the lining over the edge of the under apron

Hand sewing the lining across the top-I am sewing it on the top edge of the waistband. On a traditional kilt, it would be on the bottom of the waistband, but in this case the waistband is wide for the velcro, and Sinbad tends to untuck his shirts, so a lining here is more comfortable

Here it is on the inside

    And on the boy

    Gratuitous pleat shot!

And now I just need to make flashes (which will have to wait a few days, since I must go out and earn more kilt money!). He will be wearing this to Belmont kilt night on Friday, 2/23. Look for the pictures there.

Would anyone like a separate thread for flashes? I've been turning those out for a little while-just to keep the insatiable Panache in accessories.

    Be well,

That lad is a goner! Just make sure he can't touch his college money or you and Panache will be funding his higher education. Of course, he will be well-dressed in the classroom.

You better hope that Sinbad doesn't grow up TOO quickly. You and Panache are going to be fielding phone calls from the girls at all hours of the night. They are relentless for a handsome man in a kilt.

Very nice work and congrats on your diligence.

Yet another reason to go to Kilt Night. And a d**n fine reason, too!

F-H.C.A.G., outstanding job on the kilt. This kilt will be in his closet until he has a son or grandson of his own.
