Some of us won't even add ice to our single malts. Only a dash of spring water for me.

A little Famous Grouse goes really well with Irn Bru.

I will make a point of slowing down on Thursday when I do my weekly 'shop'! Thanks again.
Fine! So I made a point of treating the soft drink aisle at Tescos this morning as I would any other aisle of interest - and, yes, there I saw Irn-Bru. However, they seem to stock only the Irn-Bru 'Light' ...... and it is in a plastic bottle!! I bought one of them (£0.79) to try, but I am somewhat a'feared of doing so now that I have it in the 'fridge. I suspect the 'light' version will be but a pale imitation of the original. Nevertheless, I will pluck up the courage to open it at the weekend.

If you do not hear from me again, you will know what has happened....

Ah, but Jamie, our supermarket (Tesco) does things differently! When I require a case or three of tonic waters, I visit the tonic water/bitter lemon/soda water and mineral waters aisle. The Irn-Bru is tucked away in another aisle which is devoted to all those revolting, sugary, gaudily coloured, so-called fruit drinks, lemonades and colas so beloved by those who have previously destroyed their taste buds!

Which reminds me, I must go and do a stock-take of my tonic waters......

Your Tesco must be a small one Hamish.

Normally they would offer both the small and large bottles in both regular and diet. Being diabetic I normally have to opt for the diet but the regular does have an edge when it comes to taste.

However plastic is the in thing these days for just about any soft drink you care to name except when they are in cans. Cans of Irn Bru should also be available, I see them in many outlets.

I have a 14 mile drive to Tesco, Trefor, and it's quite a large, out-of-town branch. 40 check-outs - most of which are generally open!

Whilst there, I had a pretty thorough search for Irn-Bru and, as I say found only their 'Light' variety. I tried it yesterday and frankly, I have never tasted anything quite as unpleasant (but, as I have stated, I do not normally drink this sort of thing)! I do not know what I was expecting, but this was grim. It very slightly reminded me of Lucozade which I drank as a child when recovering from an illness, but I have not tried that for years either. Having a streak of Scottish blood in my veins, I will finish it because I have paid good, honest money for it, but I don't think I will bother again.

Yes, plastic bottles I understand, but I expected this to be in glass or in cans - don't ask me why! However, only the plastic, in one 500ml size was available.

Grant, I do remember Tizer from my childhood at the end of WWII, but I don't think I have ever tasted it. I may have done, but if I did it left no lasting impression on me.
