A lot of good advise, now I'll throw two cents in. I have several pair of hiking a Harley boots that fit the descriptions already given. But my favorite casual day footwear: Highland boots from Celtic Croft. Look at page 29 in the new Spring/Summer catalog. I have the side lace. Goes well with the brown belt and sporran. (I rarely wear black during the day, unless it's a dress up thing.) The other good thing about these boots, you don't have to wear special socks. Just grab a pair of white athletic sock you already have. No ones going to see them. I get as many complements on the boots as I do the kilt.

I wear hiking boots or loafers usually. Almost any kind of shoe looks good with a kilt.

I'm on your side with regard to these with a kilt. I would never ever wear these with a kilt. In fact, I don't think anyone on this thread mentioned wearing them with a kilt. I would, however, try them out for hiking (while wearing shorts).

I did WONDER how they'd look with a camo kilt, but I know better now.

I have
Except my Fives were brown and I was wearing my tan Survival UK. Frankly it didn't exactly look too terrible, just incredibly casual.

Nice.
See, my deal is that I don't have a solid color kilt that fits me, at the moment. The Vibrams look a little funky with tartan, I think.

I dont think there is anything in the rules about not wearing them with a kilt. Wear what is comfortable and what you like.
