But i took her to the highland games this year in Enumclaw and she enjoyed her self alot, she especially likes the Dancers. Slowly she is starting to take a interest and break that 1950's "everyone conform" attitude
My grandma on my dad's side plays the dulcimer, and before moving to SC, the group she played with did Celtic music, and I have heard kilts were involved. My grandpa doesn't say a word about it, though he is a WW2 vet, I think there might be a chance he served near kilted people, it wouldn't really surprise me. Of course, my aunt Helen brought back some "Alexnder" tartan from Scotland many years ago, if my grandma finds it, I might be able to figure just what tartan it really is.

I think a lot of this comes from ignorance and refusal of change or out of the ordinary.
However... I do understand local customs as well. I live in Texas and most true Texans are not flexible when it comes to..... anything.
My wife would prefer that I not wear it all the time and I don't really want to wear it everywhere we go.
My daughter just told me I '"look cool" in it but I haven't tried to wear it to the local high school football game...... yet.
No matter how much us kilt wearers would like society, friends and family to accept the kilt... it will most likely always stick out as an oddity and we will continue to be the center of attention at the local pub and restaurant.
I, for one, can respect the wishes of my family but not to the extent of not wearing the kilt on occasions that I prefer to wear it.

Ive never had any family objections about me wearing my kilts, with me living away from home for work during the week im usualy stuck in trousers but thats slowly changing starting this week. but i am kilted all weekend, My mum thinks im daft for wanting to wear a kilt for daily wear but doesnt really mind me doing it and of course my little sis thinks im weird (like all little sisters in sure) but will still be "seen" with me so its all good.
My Mum an sis came into town last week so we could go and see the new harry potter film and both of them said how weird it was to see me not wearing a kilt so im taking that as a sign of aproval. Now all i need is to find a lady friend who will accept the kilted me as i am.
Kilt on everyone ![Kilt Dance](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/kiltdance.gif)

I too would count myself in the "better choice made second time 'round" club, as I love and get along with my second wife far greater and better (respectively) than I ever did with my first (god rest her soul----if even god will have her). But unfortunately my new found interest in my heritage and kilts started after our marriage (number two) and she claims that had she known about it before we got married she probably would not even had been interested in me. I also find that strange----same guy no matter what I am wearing (and she has seen me naked, which would bring chills to most people's spines). Does the fact that I have new found interests make me that much of a different person than she married?
