I have to say I love this thing, and so does my wife! She got me a Utilikilt for a wedding present (I got her 2 wraparound skirts at a stand on Freemont St. in Vegas). I have to say I love the UK for casual wear. Lots of compliments, a few odd looks, no negative reactions at all. My more traditional kilts go over well most of the time, but get some odd looks in less formal settings.
Can't wait for next month for the USMC Birthday Ball when I will be fully decked out in my Leatherneck kilt and PC complete with miniature medals. Considering putting on the Forragé as well, but not sure about that yet.
In the mean time, me want!

Sadly the hair is back to its normal brownish blonde, and I doubt if I can swing the 10 bucks for dye anytime soon. I promise to post pics

And we can add that to the list of steampunk things I need to make, after proper victorian unders including a better bustle, a linen trenchcoat, and some better petticoats...

As is the Steampunk kilt!
I wonder if being an active member of my local steam railway makes me one?
Sounds interesting but can't really say I like the look of that kilt (in particular), too much "stuff" on it.
Would me cotton twill and chinese silk kilt be "Branchline" Steampunk ?
CT - McClef should get that one
ps: my band leader has changed my last name to McAllen (or maybe MacAllan being that he;s a drinkin' man ..)

Like Trefor, I had never heard of Steampunk until seeing this thread. I am not sure that I understand really what it is all about, nor do I think any of the styles I have just seen are for me - however, that kilt is very interesting and I could certainly find a home for it in my Kollection!!
Take care,
Ham.

Steampunk started out as an antithesis of Cyber Punk which was, you guessed it, Punk Rockers in a grungy computerized future, where it looks like we are headed.
For inspiration the Steampunk crowd look to Messrs Edgar Rice Burroughs, Herbert George Wells, Jules Verne and others. The idea is one of technological advance run amuck in the 1800s not the 1900s.

I think it's really cool, but I don't think that I could pull it off. I'll have to come to terms with the fact that I'm just not punk. Oh well.

I enjoy the Steampunk movement, but haven't ventured into it myself. It's an investment of money and (especially) time that I just can't commit to right now.
As for the Steampunk kilt, it's quite nice, although I could also do without the large cogs on the apron.
I've seen a lot of Steampunk costuming, and it seems the best always starts with a solid base of Victorian clothing, then adds to it for dramatic effect. A slightly less fancy kilt- the Altkilt "woodsman", for instance, would work just as well as the Steampunk kilt, I think.
