    Lochcarron Landed

"All good things ..." they say. And the first part of my quest is now complete. All I have to do is scritinise the details of the various swatches and come to a decision.

These Lochcarron setts use a thinner white line than the other (save Strathmore) mills. I think this is the authentic Clanranald #427. Decisions, decisions.

    Tweeds Here

32 Tweed samples from Marton Mills came through the door today. If I'd seen these a few weeks ago I might not have ordered those eight yards of MacDonald of the Isles.

Anybody know where else I can get some affordable and/or particularly beautiful tweed?

    Tweed

    Well X, yes I do!

Although I'm not sure what price range you are seeking this ebay seller has some nice looking goods. I have been tempted on numerous occasions to pull the trigger on some but keep buying Tartan instead. Although, I think I'm about done with that for a while. Here's the link:

You can also try "MyClanTartan" on Ebay he has a lot of lightweight wool clan tartan material and periodically some nice Harris, and Shetland tweeds.

    Good luck!

I should like to inform you that Marton Mills' tweed costs between $18.50/m and $21.50/m. Worth looking at. This is the price range I'm looking for unless there's something particularly nice. Undyed natural wool or some such.

    Here you go then.

The Cheviot line is 16oz. herringbone weave. The Carirngorme is 16oz. twill weave. Not shown is a Sea Green sample of the Gamble line which is 13oz. herringbone, but I'm unsure if they'll sell this in anything less than a full piece. As always, nothing compares to actually seeing them irl, but as you can see there are some nice shades. Validator (my wife) was positively jubilant at the prospect of a tweed kilt skirt after seeing these.
