That sleep shirt would not go down badly as a kilt liner. But for my liking I would cut a foot or two off the bottom.
    Regards,
    Mike

If you cut two feet off, you may end up with a "crop top".

Check the measurements - A "normal" t-shirt is about 32" in total length and this is 42". Those of shorter stature may need to hem an INCH or two not FOOT.

for a good casual effect, whay about just wearing your kilt over the shirt, giving a totally casual and informal look, might try it that way

Kilted in Maine, did you notice that the sleepshirt hangs down to the knees – that’s where the kilt is supposed to end.
I would like a garment of this type that covers my loins, but not one that will flap below the kilt.
    Regards,
    Mike

I did and that is why I said hemming a few inches may be in order for those of shorter stature.

Measure a foot from your knee and the intended purpose of the garment would be moot (for the average gent) - Two feet and it would be above your belly button!

I do plan on purchasing one of these and will report back on any flapping. I do not anticipate any but then again I am 6'4" & 325!

"A foot or two"? How long is a South African foot?

Woodsheal asked: “How long is a South African foot?”

Two feet is about as long as my thigh. I am 6ft 3in (190cm) tall.
A garment like this need not go down any further than the groin (more or less). If you want an underkilt, you are welcome, though!
    Regards,
    Mike

In my experience making these from t-shirts and making our real Kilt Shirts we found that the length should be about the bottom of the knee when worn by itself.

When you put it on with the kilt it sort of pulls up around the waist making the length just right at about 2-3 inches shorter than the hem of the kilt.

We found that the longer, the better. If made too short it will bunch up from friction and end up as an unsightly bulge just above the hips.
