    Apologizing if it was you.
I don't think that your story matches up with when I've been down in Southern California, but I'll accept the apology on his behalf.

Well, given the thread direction...When I see someone of the female persuasion (which, in these days does NOT always mean a female!) in a plaid or pleated skirt, I do not automatically think "nice kilt"...education is handy, and so is a $t filter on your mouth.

I have gotten the "Nice skirt" comment from Neanderthals looking to impress the other Neanderthals with him and when it fails to get a reaction out of me or I point out just how stupid that comment is, his friends start laughing at him.

    Re: Nice Skirt

I got the "Nice skirt!" comment on Saturday while at the Uproar music Festival. It was from a lady walking with her male companion...she continued..."It looks great on you!" I think she was sincere and really like the kilt, but just not quite educated enough to know the proper name for it. We were walking in opposite directions on different levels of the event, and I was too far away to really have any sort of conversation with her. Oh well...

I did hear a dozen positve comments throughout the night, including a "knuckle-bump" and an "Awesone kilt bro!" comment from a young heavily-tatooed hispanic gent.

There was also a look, up then down, a big smile and a hug from a young woman, while her lady friend watched. I wasn't sure how to take that one...I actually felt like I was undressed with her eyes. That was a new one for me.

Overall, positive feedback. This is typical for the concerts that I have attended in the past year.

My buddy, who wears a kilt (only for highland games) was with me and he spent the night just grinning at all of the attention that the kilt commanded. Maybe he'll wear his next time we go out for a show.

It's funny that the other day I bought my first kilt and just decided to wear it out of the store and walk home (so my first outing wearing a kilt).

It's a bit 'socially different' to wear a kilt in a 'male pants culture' but I felt pretty good walking in it.

Walking up to one intersection I saw there was a group of like 20 teenagers waiting for the bus (having just come out of school) and I thought I was bound to get some comment.

I had to walk through them and stand by the nearby corner for the walk light and there wasn't any notice or comment at all.

I guess even though around here barely anyone wears a kilt walking around, there are enough touristy restaurants, pubs, bus tour places and such that have male workers in kilts (for the tourists) that people are used to seeing them downtown them (in the non-winter months).

I figure walking through a group of 20 talkative teenagers who just got released from confinement (ie... school) should be the biggest test haha

    Re: Nice Skirt

An unusual thing happened yesterday so I thought I'd chime in here again. It's kind of a funny story actually, in a way...

So I went to uni kilted yesterday as a friend of mine was going through her PhD defence and wanted me to wear it there and out with her afterward. "Fair enough, if it helps in any little way to reduce her stress!" I thought.

My university is next door to a private school where the young ladies wear Ramsay Hunting tartan skirts (which incidentally is my university tartan). O my walk in that morning a group of four tartan-clad young ladies came up to me at the stoplight whilst waiting for the walk signal. I could see one or two kind of grinning. One said, "that's a very nice skirt" and smiled, honestly. I said, "it's a kilt" and smiled back. That unleashed a flurry of "I like the pleats in the back," "why are you wearing it," and "I think the colours are so pretty, we just have the same blue all the time." I said thank you and complimented them on being very smart looking young ladies (they were about the same age as my nieces, 12-14 I'd say). And one said, "can we walk with you to school?" I said, "sure I'm heading right that way." We walked for the few minutes and they told me about their school and such, and waved goodbye.

To echo pugcasso above, this was a great litmus test. Not only were these young ladies polite, they seemed happy and intrigued as well.

Just thought I'd share as I'm sure we were quite the sight of colour in yesterdays otherwise grey overcast day!

I'll believe it happened, even without pics. It's just too cool a story.

No pics of this one I'm afraid, I was just on my way into a normal day and didn't have a camera. And my cell phone is sol old that all it does is call people! haha

It is a good story, and it certainly gave my friend a smile before her defence as well!

And did she pass her defence? Did she get her degree? (It's the old teacher in me.)

She did actually Father She's a pretty smart cookie! She only has minor revisions to complete before final submission to Grad Studies.

Semi-on topic, she did say last night, well into a good session at a nice pub, "your awfully handsome in your skirt" haha!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread...
