Who is doing the "serious critiquing?" And why is that such an issue? Aren't forum members allowed to say what they have to say in a tactful and tasteful manner without fear of reprisal or a negative backlash? Just saying. This is as far as I am going to go on the issue - let's follow the example set by Joshua and get back on topic.
Cheers,

Don't have much interest in these "pub in a box" joints...prefab decor...not one of those people who needs thirteen big screen TV's going, each with a different sporting event on;
As to the wait-staff....hey...I'm old enough to have not only gone to the Chicago Playboy club "back in the day" but I also worked for Playboy (as a menial assistant) back then so I have what could be classified as the definitive hot waitress experience: the Playboy Bunnies. It was the ultimate achievement in terms of illusion....I used to run into these girls on their way into work BEFORE they got into their Bunny personas...so consider me totally jaded.
I have the good fortune to live in a big city and have a lot of great places available so going to a joint that succeeds on the strength of its chicken wings and twenty-something chicks with tight midriffs just isn't appealing. You want to watch the football...you go to the Globe Pub. You want food (and quiet...no TV's, just conversation)...Duke of Perth. If you want a bunch of rowdy, off-the-wall college kids getting abusively drunk...I could name a whole handful of places with Celtic pub names that are just plain old college bars with a lot of Irish paraphernalia strewn about them.
I suppose that I'm fitting into Zardoz's forum procedures as described above but what the hell...

Well put, AA!
I have several friends that live in Chicago, and with me originally hailing from Saint Louis, Chicago was never too far away for a nice weekend trip. I have heard many good things about the Duke of Perth pub, but have never been...yet!

Thanks Joshua. That is useful information. I went to a - what is it called with the car coming through the wall - lots of rock iconic stuff on the walls inside - ah, yes, Hard Rock Cafe. Very busy visually but the food was pretty good I think. So long ago now it dims. But the Plough and Stars of 1974 still burns brilliantly in my mind in Cambridge, MA. The Beggermen used to come in and practice for their gigs in Southie.

No, I have not seen one about here. County Clare is a nice enough place with decent food and a full range of libations. Is a bit pricey though.

Yes, the food is okay and the service is good. Being a "chain" operation, it is not bad. We have one in Jacksonville, Florida and we get together there sometimes. I have not worn a kilt to the place yet...maybe a kilt-night is an idea! It looks as if your kilt is a Maclaren tartan!

I have never been to a Tilted Kilt, but would love to go sometime. We don't have high-class restaurants here in New Mexico.**
When on travel my son occasionally goes to TKs with his buddies and tells me they are a lot of fun. Like many young guys the quality of the food is way down on his priority list. He got me a TK T-shirt and I wear it sometimes while kilted. I'll post a picture sometime, but it will be no threat to Mike's in post 30. I don't look that good in a kilt.
** Just kidding. We do have Hooters.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

There was one here in south downtown, but it got ran out of town after a couple of months (that whole "exploiting girls" thing).
Supposedly, there is another one being planned for St. Charles. Looking forward to it just to actually be kilted in one. Can't drink beer, and can probably only safely eat a salad, but they look like they could be a fun place. I don't pub anymore, and generally only go out to eat to people watch.
I used to go to Hooters a lot because I loved their food. My daughter had a Hooters shirt when she was 4 just because we are a bit twisted like that.
