Now, not to bring up the pleat-name debate again here, but after looking closely at the little drawings that Lady Chrystel has on her site, it seems that she calls the pleat that is on my kilt the "rolled (military) box pleat." Either way, I really likt the pleat, and for some reason, it seems to stay in better than the Knife pleat of my other three kilts. That said, my new (old) ex-mil Black Watch kilt seems to keep its pleats very nicely. However, I cant wear it much until I have it adjusted..... It is a bit big for me.

From what I can tell by looking at this photo, the jacket is exactly this. However, I was discussing with a friend this morning, and we decided it was heavy for just a dress jacket, as it does have some thermal lining of sorts. Now, the jackets in the above photo seem to be thinner than mine - though it is very hard to say.

Now, this is a very silly thing, but it is by far my most favourite jacket! I own several Argyll jackets, and a tailor made (not for me) heavy harris tweed in brown. Unfortunately, non of the jackets fit anywhere near as well as this one. I would appreciate it if anyone could translate the sizing for me!

I am really fond of the brown tweed, but I need to get another 2" or so out of the back - I intend to drop it off this week at the tailors to see what they can sneak out of it!!

One oddity though, I am not sure what sort of a guy this fitted previously, but I would say that I am the perfect height for it, yet I had to sorten the sleeves by nearly 3 1/2 inches! The guy must have been a very odd shape!

I wore this type of jacket as part of my CF uniform. If you're going to keep wearing this piece of current issue Canadian Military kit, I'd respectfully ask that you swap the buttons for a civilian set in silver colour rather than brass to make it look a bit more civilian.

Curiously enough, I am trying to find some in silver to match the belt. No luck so far! The buttons that are on it are not from the jacket, but some from a British regiment. Unfortunately, my old corps never had a highland uniform, so I can't really wear anything which reflects my service with a kilt. Apparently, R.E.M.E. has a TA pipe band, but I don't think I'd be able to find a jacket here. I've tried contacting the band to find out what tartan they wear, but to no avail. From what I can gather, this jacket is no-longer Canadian issue. This is a 1986 jacket, and the replacement came out in the late 90's I'm told. But I haven't seen one, so I couldn't tell you if they look much different.

They may have changed suppliers, but the pattern hasn't changed. In the late 90s, they got rid of the tans and moved to this jacket exclusively. Some recent pics:

I'm certainly no expert, and they do look identical! It was just info I've had given to me! I know almost nothing about Canadian Highland regimental dress. I've been out of touch with things for 15 years, nearly!

You can find plenty of silver coloured highland buttons on ebay.
