    Come to think of it most Scots don't actually wear kilts in Scotland.....its to cold and from what I can tell as a Yorkshire man they tend to mainly wear them (if at all) for special occasions.

    Personally I like my Lidl kilts I bought both Black Watch and the Hamilton Grey and in about two weeks time I'll compare them to the hand stitched kilt I'm having made. But at the price point £29.99 and at a whopping 8 yards of cloth its pretty darn hard to fault em'. :-)

    If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

    Don't you think there is a lot of people now just 'punching their tickets' when it comes to professional work. I've found a lot more people in the know around the web.

    If I lived in Europe, I would get one of these for a pub kilt.

    I'll give it a go. The article gives us Brian Wilton's quote regarding popularity: “People in Asia love tartan.”

    I would imagine the people churning them out for a pittance in asian sweatshops simply to give the importers and Lidl their impressive mark ups don't love it quite as much. The average tartan army fan won't really love it much after about 5 wears either, even though the consensus here is that Scottish football fans know nothing about kilts (not really accurate or based on a lot of interaction with them, in my opinion).

    Simply, they are tatty copies. Feel free to disagree, that's what we're here for but how many of you think that if that Lidl garment was considered the normal standard, there would even be a forum such as this, dedicated to discussing them?

    I donno about that Guardian article. After reading it I scrolled down a bit and found the Guardian's Top 10 articles about fashion list from around the web.

    #1 was;
    Penises on the fashion catwalk – a flesh flash too far?

    And #8 was;
    Why nipples were much more than just a trend at London Fashion Week

    These guys at Guardian know fashion.

    Went to a Burns Night dinner tonight and honestly, most people have no idea what to get so it is probably a good thing for many. For instance, one couple put together a plaid skirt for each with a belt and a scarf over the shoulder. They put it together today for the dinner. Doubt that they will ever think of wearing it ever for anything else so a real kilt, poor or not, would be better than a couple of plaid skirts.
