I think this nails it on the head.

Had I the money and the knowledge I have tody, I most certainly would have been inclined to at least try it. It would have been a "peer pressure VS. self confidence VS. attracting the girls" situation.

It's tough to say which one would have won.

It's my high-school-aged son who inspired me (51 now) to wear the kilt (I took delivery, had to return it, still waiting - that's for another post). He became enthused about his Scottish connections, bought a cheapie and started wearing it to school as a sophmore (he just graduated). He's a relatively slight kid, 5'-7", 130-ish. Yet it was the confidence with which he wore it that carried it off, to the point where, after sustaining the expected hoots from classmates, even the football players (american football) made admiring remarks about his "big stones". His grandmother and I bought him a woolen kilt in the modern Gordon. Since all this started he has organized a celtic contemporary band. They play local gigs in north shore Chicago and two of them are ususally kilted on-stage. I'm hoping he can come to atlanta for the Stone Mountain Games and a little father-son kilt bonding.

Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.
