    Nope, Kircaldy.

John Lennon had a wild imagination, but I do like the thought of a piece of the REAL Scottish highlands in North America in someplace like the Adirondacks or Maine. I would try to make it as realistic as possible, except for the Spelling of Kircaldy.

No interest in Scottish Chavs. Although, don't they have the Kirkcaldy Tartan Army? Perhaps I can hire them as mercenaries to invade the Eastern Seaboard of the US.

    My two cents.
I don't like so much tartan hose, I prefer plain hose with tartan flashes (if I had them!).
With my Black watch I use lovat green hose with blue flashes or black hose with green flashes.
Usually for formal evenings the first of the two choices.
For non formal dress I use even off white hose, especially with brown sprran and Belt.

    Ciao!!

Actually, I was thinking more like single malt distillery, nature preserve, and grouse moor next to something that looks like a Scottish Loch with a really good knock off of a Scottish Castle; preferably Eilean Donan.

It can't be any worse than what's out there now. Google "Bannerman Castle". It's supposed to be Scottish.

There was an old series of kid's books "Alfred Hitchcock presents.... The 3 investigators in" and one of the was "Secret Of Phantom Lake" which had a similar idea in it.... Blast from the past there!

Are you sure that wasn't The Secret of Terror Castle?

The real question would be whether the three investigators wore formal kilt outfits with formal hose at Terror Castle...

Just to get this back on subject before this thread gets moved.

Pretty sure that is was the Phantom lake one....

Back on Topic, and out of interest, has anyone got any tips for cheats for formal/semi-formal hose? What I mean is, has anyone found that rugby/soccer/hillwalking(hiking)/snowboarding/skiing/Irish dancing/army surplus socks work with a kilt in that sort of situation (probably more likely for semi-formal)? And if so, could you share pics or source? Thanks...

I've sort of been pondering this myself. While the R. Brewin hose come in various flavours and are inexpensive, IMHO they aren't really substantial. My thought is that a decent pair of knee socks which can be turned down could be used. For example, the hose in this picture are old Barbour knee socks

This also gives me a chance to post a pic of myself with my Wyvern sporran and black braemar purchased from USA Kilts with my ancient Forbes tartan kilt.

Not really the thing for hyper-formal, but you can find inexpensive hose which work. Just don't use regular men's knee sock (e.g., "gold toe" dress socks) that look like this:
    .

The real trick is to have the turn down for the garters/flashes. Not to mention the hose should be somewhat substantial (i.e., "thick"). I am thinking about using some ragg wool knee socks I have around for day wear.
