We spend a lot of time discussing certain accessories- hose, shoes, headgear- but other items are not talked about much. I am asking with my tongue heading towards my cheek, but is there such a thing, really, as a kilt watch? Do certain eyeglasses "go" with THCD while others do not? What other daily-use items are there that might or might not be appropriate for wear or carrying with the kilt? And why? I am posting here and not in the Accessories sub forum because I particularly want the Traditional perspective.

My larger question has to do with the "living tradition" we have talked about so much lately- the spirit of adaptation that keeps the kilt from being a costume, the approach that makes us traditional, not historical. I am eager to know why we adopt the cromach, for instance, but not the silver- topped walking stick of the Edwardians.

Again, historical reenactors will shun inconsistent personal effects ( "Ahem , sir, your iPod case must be either suede or patent leather, snakeskin is not period correct.") while the rest of us usually let practicality be our guide. Are there notable exceptions, or particularly good examples to/of this principle?

Any modern conveniences that you have connected to your kilt wearing?
