Re: Poll: How often do you see kilts worn?
Well this is Seattle and we are a bit different here. On average, I do see 2 - 3 other men wearing kilts most days. When it is warmer that could be as many as 10. It helps that I pass the Utilikilt flagship store every day on the way to work.

So, with tongue placed firmly in my cheek, but I am genuinely curious, if you discount the "modern" style non tartan kilt, most of you are not seeing many(even less) tartan kilts at all?

Speaking strictly for myself Jock, not as often as I did a few years ago. Mostly "modern" styles, but then I am only a couple hours north of the home of the Utilikilt ![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Having said that, when I do wear my tartan kilt out & about, it doesn't raise too much of a ruckus outside of the usual "nice kilt" comments (most do not comment one way or the other). I may be wrong, but I chalk it up to our proximity to the US/Canadian border and the popularity of our local Highland Games.

Jock, I never saw a "contemporary" kilt until I went to an XMarks Kilt night.

Out of courtesy to the OP, I will ask MY question in a new thread as I have no wish to high-jack his thread. My apologies to him.

John
I tend to see a few around town (other than Tom my kilted bike mechanic) such as at the track for Derby/Oaks or Breeder's cup (three at each this past year) or even at other non-scottish functions (another doc and I at a christmas ball fundraiser) but more when I travel, which is fairly frequently. I regularly run across kilties just about everytime I go back to Wisconsin (2-3x/yr) as well as Chicago (2-3x/yr) and other major cities I frequent. Weird that way, but I think I am more sensitized to picking them out of crowds now that I wear them myself. Unless kilted myself, which is not often when I travel, I tend to not go out of my way to interact with those I see, but I am sure I have undoubtedly run across a few other xmarkers without knowing it.

Metro Chicago...
...a worker in Utilikilt at a town event, two men at a historians' convention, three others at another, several-plus on the streets. Total of less than one per month, average. Very sad.

I think we've all heard the "wish I'd worn my kilt too" or similar remarks from pants wearing strangers at one time or another.
So if you're kilted at the time of the sighting, good job! you're an enabler! ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
If you're not kilted, well you are just setting a bad example! ![Confused](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
Good point Zardoz.
When I did see that modern kilt I was in pants on the way to work. It's disappointing that there are so few kilts out there and I'm trying to do my part to help make them more popular by buying more of them and wearing them more. Stange as it might seem I only wear my Sport kilt when I am shoveling snow or operating the snowblower and on occasion chopping wood, the hardest activities that I do in winter.

Re: Poll: How often do you see kilts worn?
I've never counted. But I'd say, less than 10. I'm not in kilt country, that's for sure. Mostly denim, buckles and boots. BUT, I know several guys who wear kilts, mostly tartan. They reserve them for special occasions or Masonic Lodge functions. Wearing them on a daily basis is uncommon. I have seen a UK or similar, but not here... I was in the Okanagan. I now sport an Rkilt regularly (army green) and I know of another guy in town who has one. We haven't yet been at the same place at the same time! I'm working on that. And working on the occasional kilt night, too just to get those kilts out into the open.
