Jock, vision is my excuse! You should see me struggle repleating a black watch 6 decades is real close here.
My biggest typo source is "floaty hands" on the keyboard. Learned to type on the old manual machines and lost the homekeys positioning habit when we started touch typing. I proof read and still miss things. English is a living (changing) language that seems very dependent on the local culture for context. Am still butchering the termonology used with kilts and the sister lingo used for pleated skirts. Entertaining at times.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

At six score and 3 I understand the mind always works faster than the fingers. The problem with a forum is that you are potentially writing to 100s and no matter what you are going to Piss off someone.

If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

I learned to type on an IBM type-writer in the 80's. To me these for the computer are too close togeather.

My first "career" was maintaining mechanical office machines from the really old NCR cast iron cash registers to the Monroe calculators to the firsts computer compatible IBM Selectrics. ( They actually use ASCII ) Had to learn a new career. Can't fathom how the kids can type anything on the itty bitty key phones. I use a full sized wireless keyboard and my 40 inch TV with my laptop to keep what few marbles I have left, intact. At least kilts seem timeless although unchangingly changing. Maybe if we weave in some electric lights...

As I have only spent the last 6 years with computers and slightly less on a website(2 now) I tend to be forgiving to newbies to the website even if they understand the Internet better than I do and perhaps not so much the subject at hand and whilst I have no cut off point I tend to think that I know enough of their style and I hope that they know enough of mine by the time they have passed two hundred posts and certainly by 500 posts there really ought to be some basis of understanding in each other's style, even if we are never going to agree on anything! I find that understanding a subject is not something that comes to us all in equal amounts at prescribed times, so patience is helpful to the understanding of others. But then that's just me. But you are absolutely right we can get it wrong however hard we try.
Take this thread for example, I am stunned that some have completely misunderstood what I was saying! It is not the first time and I suppose it probably won't be the last, but it is disappointing nonetheless. It is interesting though and significant I think, that the two others with direct connections to Scotland and I think one from a Commonwealth country on this thread understood exactly what I was saying. To be absolutely fair there were some from the USA too, that also understood what I was saying .

Jock is there a Scottish analog to Gin and tonic with cranberry juice? I already found out Key Limes are real hard to find there. G & T dosen't stain the kilts but the cranberry - Oh My!

Sorry I don't understand. Scottish analog? Gin and Tonic with cranberry juice is not something that I know about. Key Limes? Limes are fairly easy to come by, but most would have a G&T with a slice of lemon, I think. We do and most of our friends do as well.

My error and my misinterpretation, in the future I will count to 200 before responding. Based on my current memory I will have forgotten why I am counting well befor 200.

Key limes originally came from Key West Florida. They are smaller and tarter than the normal limes. They work very well in a proper G & T - ice, lime, gin, tonic - in that order. Will have to try the lemon version. The cranberry juice keeps my kidneys from complaining about the high acid content and tastes pretty good at a half and half mix with the tonic water.
Have found no name for it so I call it a Cronic - less of a mouthfull - .
I am aware of the historical Malaria medicine palatability origins for the G&T.
