Here is why we need this new forum:
Under the old rule, as written, this image was proscribed.

Why? Because of the rifle in the chief's hand. This is an engraving from 1831.
If we are going to properly discuss the historical outfit of the highlander, then, for the time period when firearms became available, we have to include the historical firearms. The pistols, the long guns, the muskets, the swords are all weapons, and proscribed under the old rule.
This image was also proscribed:

As the color guard are carrying carbines. Yet, no one could argue these gentlemen (S.A.M.S) members are dressed in the uniform of their group, which obviously includes the kilt and other accoutrements of Highland dress. No one can say these gentlemen are doing anything but showing honor to the kilt and to the colors they carry.
Talking about the morality of the ownership of firearms or other weapons, the use of weapons, or the use of the outfit to conceal a weapon are, and should be, outside the rule.
Talking about the appropriate use of weapons as PART OF THE OUTFIT should be on this forum, under neat and clean rules.

Wow. Off line for a week or so getting ready for a math test and I missed all this?
On the one hand I am sorry I missed the apparently short lived section, and partly not. During the last US election cycle Xmarks was on of the few places I could go on the internet and not hear even more drivel about the election. 700 some new posts since I visited last, and not one about North Korea.
I like it that way, a place just to talk about kilts.
However, in any discussion pertaining to Pepsis and Pepsi can holders I am of the firm experienced opinion that a sporran is a lousy place to stash a can of Pepsi. My umm, first swallow timer has made it very very plain that a belt mounted Pepsi can holder, with a special wide loop on it to accommodate a 2" kilt belt is the better choice if getting that first swallow of Pepsi quickly is a priority.
I find it very easy to conceal a can of Pepsi, while kilted, under a bulky sweater or thrift store converted tweed jacket.
Now back to claymores and basket hilts I am sure...

Most soda containers do not fit well in a sporran, though I must admit that some very small, but effective ones do. When I carry sodas, I do so in a "pouch wallet" that generally comes in two sizes - 4" X 6" or 5" X 7", and attaches to my kilt belt on either side.
The least expensive vendor I have found who sells pouch wallets is J. Higgins. They may be seen at

Good luck, and happy sipping.

And the two photos you posted just broke the overall forum rules re firearms cause you have posted it, not in the new weapons sub forum but in the comments and suggestions sub forum

I did intend only to read, not post but I thought that I could point out that there are some who truly do not understand the place of weapons in a forum dedicated to kilts.
Anne the Pleater :ootd:
We do lack something elemental, Anne: we lack clawed forepaws and saber teeth. The thing we have is that our hominid brains are all designed to pick up tools. We are gratified when we do, antsy if we do not.
And for the second point there -- well, I'm still groping, at a less-than-twoscore post count, towards an understanding of the considerations that engendered this kind of rule. I might get there.

I am willing to admit that I may be mistaken, but I am under the distinct impression that XMTS is a forum dedicated to "kilts and accessories". See the Mission Statement under the Philosophy and Rules of X Marks.
Weapons have been historically, and presently still are, accessories to Scottish attire. With an open mind I await any corrective edification.

It's one of the unique things about XMarks, UG, we actually talk about our Rules. A few of us may never, ever understand why a particular Rule is written the way it is, or why it is here at all. The only bit that's important is that it is and that we all agree we will abide by it as we participate in the forum. I'm sure you will get there 'cause you're making the effort.

Gents, perhaps a read or maybe a re-read of one of the posts made by Steve will give you some information you are seeking

Gents, I shall be succinct. Quit it!
Lest the mods actually start removing posts for Rule #11 violations. We are not automatons, and therefore understand that the SPIRIT of the law is as important as the LETTER of the law. Discussion of "cans of soda" and "swallows" fool nobody, and I for one, am inclined to start actioning flagrant Rule #11 violations.
This is the only warning I shall issue on this matter.
