I have nine, and a mix of several types. It's enough for me, since I don't wear them full time. For most of my kilt-wearing life (~35 years) one was enough. Since I joined XMTS, I've been enabled to indulge a little more.

Seven (I recently found new homes for three that got to be too big for me - Yay!!). Two UKs, one PV MacLeod of Harris, one SWK Thrifty in Irish National (cheap enough that if someone barfs on it on St. Patrick's Day, it doesn't matter), SWK Heavyweights in Black Watch and Saffron, and a WPG MacKenzie (Seaforth Highlanders).

Just one at the moment -- Geoffrey (Tailor) in Mackenzie modern.

Hoping to supplement this with a SWK Standard in weathered Mackenzie sometime in the next couple of months....

11...but four more are in the hopper...meaning I have the material to make them, or I'm in the process of stitching them up. Two are contemporary kilts...X-Kilts or a variant that I made. Four are purchased...one USA Kilts casual, two from a company in Scotland tha'ts no longer in business and one is a Gold Brothers special. Ick. The rest, I made.

However, one of those might not come back from a little trip to Central America that I have planned for it, and I've shall we say, "outgrown" one that I purchased so it may come up for sale here pretty soon. I can only justify so many kilts before it feels to me that it borders on an unhealthy obsession. That's not to say that other people can't own more, just that I can't.

    Here I am, Cherub!

Well, to throw a possible spanner into the proverbial works: in spite of what my avatar states**, I actually have 95 assorted kilts (and absolutely no t------s .............. I have not worn them for 9 years and 9 months now).

My inventory is far too varied and numerous to list here, but most can be seen in the Photo Gallery I have prepared for my up-coming very first website. Here's a link to the Gallery: www.kiltedhamish.net The Kilt Kollection part is pretty much complete but the rest is 'under construction', as are other parts of the website : the thumbnail images will enlarge with a description when clicked upon, and you can move forward or back through the Kollection by clicking on the right or left-hand side of each enlarged image.

** In the past the Mods used to update this automatically, but recent kilt acquisitions seem to have passed them by!! !-)

    Take care,
    Ham.

I also want to get an Isle of Skye from USAK, and a Wolfe tartan kilt. So does that make you feel better?
UPDATE: I got the cash for a down payment on the Albannach kilt, and I am as of this moment wearing my new Amerikilt. So- that's nine on hand, and two more on the way, with 3 more (I decided I want a Loud McLeod USAK) in the future.

In truth the admins used to change the count for you Ham. I am positive that the mods are trying to sort it out and get the proper count up there for you.

As for the original question in this thread.....

I am down to 3. I had more, but never wore them so they went onto people that will wear them. I was once one of the "buy as many as I can" crowd, but now I prefer to simply own what I need as I don't wear a kilt as often as some. I have a Scottish made handsewn 16 oz worsted wool kilt, a Scottish made machine sewn 13oz worsted wool kilt, and a BC made poly-viscose kilt for spilling beer and dirt on. There are dozens of tartans I would love to add, but I am married and I honestly don't have that much cash or closet space

3 tanks and a fourth on the way. I plan to start wearing my kilts with my scottish and Irish folk band (don't know why I have not in the past) so I will pick up a few more this year.

Well, I just dug through my closet and it appears I have 13.
All made by me, 2 Tartan PV and the rest are moderns.

I have material laying here to make myself at least 3 more if I can ever get the time.

This isn't counting the only kilt I ever purchased (A Black Amerikilt) that I sold as I shrunk out of it, and a few others I had made for myself and shrunk out of.
