My dress sporran like McMurdo's is seal skin advantage of being north of the border. Because my kilt is ancient hunting colours the skin and tassels are all black with an antiqued finnish cantle rather than a chrome or shiney finnish. I think that you need to pick the sporran to go with the tartan you are wearing.

I'm not big on fur but ForresterModern, that first sporran you posted is amazing. Your Isle of the Sky kilt is also quite lovely.

    Thank you Lady M

I do love the look of the IoS, and wear it as often as I can. Definitely among the prettiest of the tartans I own, along with the ancient Douglas and my own family tartan.

The first sporran wiht the IoS is a simple bovine fur dress sporran, but with nicely mottled coloration. I have another similar pattern in a different fur that is similarly mottled but in a brownish-green coloration that I have yet to take pics of or post. Equally attractive, but best for a different color palate of outfits.

    Formal Sporran

Many Xmarkers will disagree with me (probably because they are more refined than I am), but in my opinion, the nicest sporran that one could wear is the L & M Highland Outfitters badger full mask military sporran (MSF-1016M). You can't get them from L&M directly though (I've looked into this), you have to go through a retailer that carries the L & M products. The only problem with it is that you should really only use that particular sporran for the most formal of occasions (Black Tie or White Tie). Normally, a full mask sporran could be properly worn for everything from casual to very formal (black or white tie) occasions. I spoke with one of the L&M staff members, and the tassels make that particular sporran exclusively formal. I will say this though, if you're looking to go more economical, this sporran is not for you, and I'd go with an equally formal (But not nearly as nice in my opinion), non-mask cantle sporran. It is my understanding, from speaking to L&M's staff, that the MSF-1016M is their most expensive/highest end sporran, although I could be wrong.

Those cantles are really nice. Thanks for sharing the site

My ultimate is my favorite: targe style sporran in white fur with 3 white tassels with chrome bells, chrome pewter cantle embossed with a shamrock pattern in sharp relief and a single large shamrock at the center plus a Celtic knotwork plaque-chain strap with swiveling hooks. For a Scot I would replace the shamrocks with thistles and maybe a stag's head for the single shamrock in the middle.

My next is my current daywear sporran that looks great but actually needs some repairs:
targe style with black fur and 3 black fur tassels, a pewter Celtic knotwork cantle with a black enamel inlay. Again the plaque-chain in a knotwork pattern with the swiveling hooks.
