Re: What's the most "interesting" beer you've ever tasted?

For me, it was the now-extinct Samuel Adams Triple Bock. I made a very unfortunate comment about it after the first sip, "Tastes like soy sauce." Which stood to reason, considering the extreme grain bill. Managed to finish the glass but it was ruined for me until I made a concerted effort to get over it. I eventually managed to do so, and enjoyed many a fine evening immersed in some literary work, with the fire going, and a glass of Triple Bock to hand.

One tiny bottle was enough for three nights of splendour. I think it was about ten bottles to get through the entire 14-book Dune "trilogy."

If only I could remember the name of a strange brew a friend once purchased for me in Germany, a dark beer distilled into a schnapps. Yes, dark beer turned into schnapps, almost clear looking with a hint of roasted dark beer.

Just had my first (probably not my last) taste of Speedway Stout. On draft, about 1/2 pint was more than enough to sip through in about an hour's time. Wonderful stuff, should be served with a knife and fork!

Re: What's the most "interesting" beer you've ever tasted?

Sorry for digging up an old thread...

Being an avid home brewer and having judged some competitions, I had the pleasure (???) of judging a beer entered in group 21a, it was a vegetable beer, not just any old veggie, it was a beet beer.

It tasted exactly like beets, looked like beet juice and had a pink head on it. There was no sweetness, no hop notes, no maltiness, just overpowering cooked beet flavored beer.

For my personal beers I brew that may be deemed unusual, I make a chocolate mint milk stout, a saison with black pepper and coriander, a home-smoked rye pale ale, and a nut brown ale that uses hefe yeast so it tastes like banana nut bread.

And for dessert how about a Bavarian hefe with a scoop of pistachio ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce in it? I call that one a beer-nana float.

But the best Weizen (wheat beer) is this:

They also make a beer of 6 different cereals:spelt, barley, wheat, rye, oats and emmer.
    Very good!

And last not least: Myanmar beer!:

I just had a sixer of Bridgeport Hop Czar IPA.

Maybe not the most interesting, but one of the most flavorful to my palate!
