Re: WELSH RUGBY SCARF 2012 ... a travel log in pictures.
Great shots of Charleston. I was fortunate enough to be at Patriot's Point (where the USS Yorktown is emplaced) in 2006 and stayed on board overnight as part of a Scout trip with my troop. I even got permission to get up on the flight deck the next morning and pipe reveille (no kilt though - too much to bring along with the limited space I had).

Re: WELSH RUGBY SCARF 2012 ... a travel log in pictures.
I certainly enjoyed receiving the scarf and being able to take pictures and share the story with my wife and friends. Everyone enjoyed hearing about the travels and where the scarf has already been, and my wife enjoyed looking through the threads from both this year and last year.
Anyway, here goes........
I picked up the scarf from the Kilted Rogue (on the right) at his place of work in downtown Charleston. I snapped a quick picture of us standing in front of the Charleston Place Hotel with the "horse" fountain in the background. He looked quite dapper in his "day job" attire.....

After picking it up, I headed over to the Charleston Police Department where I taught an in-service training class for the afternoon. (Police Chaplain) The scarf had a brief encounter with one of the cruisers parked in the lot.
After I finished the class, I stopped by The Citadel and let the scarf visit with the gigantic class ring at the edge of the parade field and then gave the scarf a brief rest on one of the benches overlooking the parade field and one of the dormitories. It was actually cadets from The Citadel who fired the first shots of the civil war when they took one of the cannons from The Citadel and shot at the Federal supply ship, Star of the West.

When I got up this morning, (Valentine's Day) my wife and I took the scarf out to introduce it to Daisy, our 1969 Piper Cherokee Arrow, PA28r-180. I thought the reds went well together and Daisy always enjoys the attention.

After leaving the airport, we went to see my mother-in-law at her assisted living home to wish her Happy Valentine's Day.

Just outside the home, I took a quick shot of the Live Oaks with the Spanish Moss to give a flavor of the Charleston atmosphere. Her home is on Daniel Island, just a few blocks from the tennis center where the Family Circle Cup tournament is held each year right after the Masters Golf Tournament just up the road in Augusta.

Next, we drove out to Sullivan's Island. On the southwest tip of the island is Fort Moultrie, site of a very historic battle in the Revolutionary War.

I then walked about 50 feet to the beach and stood where the union troops who vacated Fort Moultrie just before the start of the Civil War would have boarded the ships for the short trip across the mouth of the Charleston harbor to join the other federal troops stationed at Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter is just behind us and I also took a closeup to show a little more detail.

Great set of pictures Doug. Thanks for posting them and taking the time out with the scarf. Glad you had a good time with it.
The scarf is certainly covering a bit of ground quite fast at the moment. Looking forward to seeing where in the time vortex its gonna appear next.

The scarf arrived in Southwest Missouri this morning, safe & sound. I will be taking it to St. Louis tomorrow, with pictures to follow by Sunday evening. Monday is a holiday here in the colonies, so it will be winging its way to its next destination early next week.
Regards,
Todd

For public servants, banks and educators perhaps, but for many of us it is just another workday. Someday I might find a job that has all those nice extra holidays, my wife used to get Cesar Chavez day as a holiday as a state employee.

Back from St. Louis -- not too many photos, due to some camera issues, but I'll post what I have later. I'll also try to take the scarf to a couple of spots here in SGF before sending it on its way on Tuesday.
