Re: Do you feel safe?
come on guys, this thread has gone on far too long. We are beginning to loose some of our members because of it. Can't we just end this damn thread and move on. Surely there are a million other things we can talk about. Enough is enough

I agree with you regarding political correctness. However, I don't recall mentioning political correctness in my post so I'm not sure why you mentioned it in response to what I said.

Re: Do you feel safe?
I feel safe on Xmarks. People here don't always agree, which is a good thing in my books. The discussion can get heated some times but I think people stay more or less civil. If things stray too far, the mods are pretty good about stepping in.
The responses that one gets are often driven by the type of comment or question one writes. If people ask for criticism, they will get it. If people ask for support, they can get that too. If people ask for an opinion, boy oh boy, will they get it! I think picking the right sub-forum to post in can also go a long way towards getting the types of responses one is looking for...

No worries...I wasn't responding to just you.

I don't post much here anymore because there is large contingent here that do walk in lockstep. And do expect others to fall in line.
And people take offense so readily--just try coming onto this board...not "one of the boys"...and express an opinion that differs from the official canon. It's not just the feeding frenzy of the "rabble" that ensues (how can "politeness" or "behaving like gentelmen" have any authority when we define and think of ourselves as "rabble?' It's like naming a dog "Killer' and expecting it to to be gentle around children)...It's not just the feeding frenzy alone, or the pressure to conform to a skewed and one-sided vision of tolerance, it's the behind the scenes sniping and reporting abuses at the drop of the hat that, even if not seen or overt, poisons the well. And it's all so blithely accepted...maybe that's the real rub.
Everyone has their positions so well staked out...and defiantly staked out...no one even needs to read the other guy's posts--not for understanding or meaning, at any rate, just to verify if the "code words," the proscribed ideas, are there or not there.
But hey, don't mind me...I'm just an "auld crabbit" and haven't felt safe from the "rabble" since day one.
Yes...that's a rant...no excuses.
Exactly. You said it much better than I could. Excellent post.

Just so everybody knows, because it is painfully obvious that most
members do not know, the term "Rabble" was chosen specifically because it
is the collective noun for BUTTERFLIES.

Re: Do you feel safe?
Greetings,
It's been a while since my last posting...but posting here is fun and when I discovered this X Marks forum it was exciting when one of the 'Rabble' mentioned my tartans. Since joining here I had put as much detail into my profile and my first introduction post (which I received many warm welcomes, thanks all) as I could, I haven't joined any 'Social Groups' etc, and I do like reading the various topics, though I don't read everything on here LOL, from experience, writing a post and reading a post, can effect different emotions...when writing a post, I could be feeling, happy, or sad, or excited, or tired, and when reading a post I have written, it might not be so obvious what my emotions are, and if I write something feeling excited or tired, I may mis-spell words or mis-arrange them without thought, but writing is not like haven't a conversation, you can't hear how I write my words only read them. I hope this post finds you in good spirits.
Thank-you for your time,
Graham
Another note: Texting language used on mobiles phones is funny to try and read, thx m8 we will c u l8r at 8 LOL etc

Re: Do you feel safe?
"Rabble" is also the collective term for gnats...or insects, in general.
Just so everyone knows...
What's the collective term for collective terms? Maybe Dam Julyans Barnes would know.

Re: Do you feel safe?
I'm pretty confused myself. I feel pretty good about this site. Especially lately as there have been many opportunities for someone to give me a good butt chewing for my poor choice of words or stumble-thumb way of expressing myself and the members were more gracious and kind than any other site I've been on.

And to think, I was proud to be a part of my definition of "rabble"...trouble making commoners. (;0P
That's me, baby!
