YOUR tartan

I gotta say that, even though my own 1st kilt is a Douglas (paternal grandmother):


when I see the Wilson tartan it gives me a moment of pride and kinship. I think it must be because the color combination is so striking -- it takes a degree of self-confidence & panache that I'm just not sure I'm up to mustering enough to commit a kilt to it. Not yet, anyway.

My favorite is the Black Watch and I hope to own a Ancient Campbell soon. I've seen some very fine examples of the Ancient and I think they look great!

My favourite tartan would have to be the Caledonian New Modern. It's a colourful tartan, showing off to my eye all the wonderful colours of Scotland, and happens to be the one which my first kilt is made from. It's not our family ancestrial tartan, but I sure to like it.

I was told in a kilt shop in Edinburgh 25 years ago that my tartan was Gordon (my surname is Addy and they are aligned with Gordon). That was good enough for me and having no known Scottish ancestry it turns out to be fine anyway as it is universal. I have it in Ancient, Modern and Weathered and have also appropriated a few other tartans including McLeod, McPhearson and Ramsay.

I recently bought #2 in XMTS, which as a poster here I guess is also mine. I am trying to decide on a custom weave of what just might be my tartan in a more undisputed way, the American Bicentennial tartan, although I predate it by a few years.

MacDonald of the Isles Hunting Ancient. I prefer it over the modern tartan, as well as most other MacDonald tartans... except for the modern dress when appropriate.

That a gorgeous bunch of guys! Okay where did you get the red hose? Don't match your kilt but they are really beautiful despite that. What clan are they and where did you purchase them?

I have a friend whose family are serious clan MacDonald wearers, but I've never seen that particular tartan among her collection.

As for me and my family, we are highland dancers so we stay in the dress tartans... (depressing is that clan Montgomery doesn't have a dress tartan, those slacker ancestors of mine ;). ) and we generally prefer all of the dress Menzies, especially the red, green, or royal blue ones.

I should realistically wear Sinclair or Stuart or Wallace or Bruce since they are ancestors as well, but they are too masculine looking for me to want to wear, especially when I am dancing.
