one of the groomsmen asked if I'd feel awkward wearing a kilt. I do a lot of running and got into triathlon last year. Nothing could be more awkward, or revealing, than the shorts I wear on some of my races. I can't imagine I'd have a problem kilting it up on a regular basis.

I'm coming into this a bit late, but, better late than never. One of my first kilted experiences at a Japanese hibachi restaurant and the staff loved it and asked all about my kilt. I am of Irish decent and explained that and the staff was very respectful. I wear mine almost exclusively when I go out and I get nothing but compliments. Yesterday standing near a window in a book store, two younger women knocked on the glass, pointed downand gave me the thumbs up. I will never worry about my kilt in public!!

To answer your question McFye I live in the State of Wyoming. The city of Rock Springs to be specific. The whole state is low population density and I would really be surprised to find anyone from this community that lives closer than a few hours drive from here. However the idea isn't without merit. I get out to larger cities like Salt Lake and Denver from time to time for a variety of reasons and It would be nice to hook up with some guys on such a trip.

I've been through that region (Encampment, Rawlins, Lander, Dubois). While there's obviously a large cowboy population, I don't think a kilt would completely blow people's minds. There are enough rock climbers in Lander who'd think a kilt is cool, and honestly I think anyone in Dubois wouldn't give you a hard time either. I've never been to Rock Springs so I can't speak for that community, but if it's the same vibe as what I mentioned it shouldn't be a problem.
Andrew.

You and McNulty [New Castle CO near Eagle/ GJ] should meet "half way" at say Dinosaur for a Western Slope kilt night. Or you can schedule a date and we may be able to wake up some of the front range rabble for a get together

One of the more priceless moments is when you catch a random girl staring at you, and then you get the huge "I'm embarrassed that you caught me staring at you, but I still can't bare to look away" smile. A couple of those will make anyone's day, and that kind of thing happens all the time. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Kilt wearing is great for everyone. It's good for you, and it'll brighten a bunch of other folks' days, alwell.

I think I got my first negative remark this past weekend. I went into a Post Office early in the morning and was the youngest person in there. Well, this old man I think decided to give me a hard time. I will admit, I was getting some odd looks, but nothing disrespectful. Anyway, this old man who was leaving as I was entering says loudly "Hey! Nice Skirt!" Now, I was in my kilt with a Scottish Pride T shirt on. I glanced back as I removed my glasses and said "Thanks!" with a big smile, and then said "...and it's a Kilt!" with a smirk and a wink. He kinda smiled and then said "Yep."
The next part I didn't hear, but I think he said something like "it's a little late for St. Pattie's Day.." or something. I remember hearing "St. Pattie's day", but that was it. By then we had passed each other and I was already walking into the main area.
I just blew it off and laughed at him.

ROFL. I got this exact situation on Saturday when I left the barber shop after the Post Office incident with the old man! I caught this young woman looking and with a big smile I said good morning. She turned a bit red and gave me a shy smile when she wished me the same.
It's funny. The majority of attention you will get is positive by a landslide. It is nice. One thing it will do is make you approachable. People will want to comment on it or ask you about it.

here's what I figure-
if someone says "why are you wearing a skirt," say "why are you wearing pants?" It catches them off guard and gives you enough time to walk away peacefully.
I guarantee that every town, in every society, all over the world has some sort of "deviant." If they are actually your friends, then they will still be your friends. If they are not, then they were never your friends to begin with, and shouldn't be relied upon. Watch "Lars and the Real Girl" to see what it can be like. I"m not saying falling in love with a "love doll" is the same as wearing a kilt, but it is the same idea: deviance.
Remeber: the reason you are wearing a kilt is because you want to and it is more comfortable. The scots have worn kilts for hundreds of years because their nether regions are too large to fit in pants comfortably... and the sporran is to protect those massive whosits. Duh.
