They're everywhere! What do we do now!
Scots in ten gallon hats... Oh dear. Maybe we're not so un-Scottish after all.
Guess that's what happens when you are splattered with several cultures from all over the world.

One of my favorite quips to the "Are you from Scotland, are you Scots?" questions is;
"I'm only about 6000 miles away from Scotland. I'm sure there's a tainting of the bloodline somewhere along the ancestral lineage!"
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

Well there it is, Scottish line dancing in cowboy hats. You know, Bloke, we do have cowgirls out here too. I would guess the square dancing has it's roots in Celtic dancing.

Let me start by saying, I haven't read this entire thread. But I do see what the points are in both side of the coin.
I am an American, and my family on my fathers side has been American for 2 generations for my English grandmothers part and three generations for my Scottish Grandfathers part. We've been American for four generations in all directions on my mothers side. A mix of German and Irish ancestry. Both parts of my family are post Civil War emigrants.
OK....
You can be an American national, but you can not be ethnically an American. The melting pot that is America is ever changing, yes even today and is headed in a more Hispanic direction than anything else.
You can have American heritage, but you can not be ethnically an American.. as previously stated. America has its own holidays and traditions and customs = American Heritage.
I know when people ask me if I'm Scottish (usually because I'm wearing a Kilt), I say my grandfathers family on my father's side was from Scotland. Which is 100% true. In just about 130 years of all my families American ancestry, I am a mix of English-Scottish-Irish-German ethnicity!
One could simplify it and say "I'm European-American!"
Just like there are "Hispanic-Americans" , "African-Americans" , "Asian-Americans" , etc....
This mix that is America, is part of what makes America so great!
