Gaaa....why do I read this garbage? There was a reason why I took a break, a reason why I basically quit posting in anything but the Athletics forum.

It just annoys me that to maintain some level of fun on this board, I have to avoid 90% of the forums so I don't have to look at the posts made by just three or four individuals.

Those who are armigers by "right of birth" do have the right to "stick some feathers in their hat", according to the customs and traditions of Scots heraldry. I understand what you're trying to say, and believe me, I tend to believe that "We're a' Jock Tamson's Bairns", but on the same token, there is a definite distinction between being unaware and a poseur. Google "McCarthy Mor" or "Prince Michael of Albany" and you'll see what I am referring to.

Yes...my exact words. I'm not keen on people who make up fake geneologies in order to get invited to fancy functions and wear feathers. Just like other people, who don't like that..

The difference is that I just don't get on my high horse and preach about how I'm so much better than they are.

And, BTW...neither do you. No, it's just one or two men on this board who love to do that. It's THEIR attitude that lights my fuse.

    Back to athletics.......

Alan: neither do I in both counts. We're a' Jock Tamson's Bairns.

However, I see nothing wrong with attempting to educate those who ask legitimate questions about the customs and traditions of Scots heraldry.

Apologies for offending you, as I seem to do on a regular basis.

No, Todd, you are not. Yes, I find your never-ending backing of the traditional side...always the OLD = GOOD, NEW = BAD to be frustrating and tiresome. But I have never found you to be condescending or rude. You are entitled to your opinions, and you are entitled to value what you feel is important. I respect you for speaking your mind, and you do it rather less bluntly that I do, but you still do it, and that's good. There's way too much mamby-pamby sweetie good-boy talking on this forum, being "the ladies and gentlemen of XMarks" is what we call it. While you are pretty polite, you still call a spade a spade and I appreciate it. I wish more people would do the same. Call a spade a spade. Nobody is going to DIE around here at a few blunt words on a computer screen.

Honestly, I think it would be good if you loosened up a bit, you know...like wore a camouflage kilt OH MY GOD, maybe pulled your socks down once in a while...maybe went to a rock concert or something. I don't know... But while you are staunchly Conservative and Old Fashioned that's OK. Its your choice and you don't tell anybody that you are better than they are, because you are....whatever.... "traditional".

No. I think it'd do you good to look at the other side now and then, to actually TRY something wild and crazy, to actually wear a freaking Utilikilt or do something equaivalent in terms of ...whatever.... but no. JERK you are not.

No, the guy I am referring to, posted early in his career that one thing he did for fun was go down to the annual Scottish Parade...tartan day or something, and laugh at all the people who were doing it wrong. I'll never forget it. His idea of 'fun" is to go laugh at people who aren't wearing a kilt just the right way. He doen'st want to help them, he doesn't enjoy the simple fact that they are enjoying themselves, that they are celebrating their own heritage, he laughs at them because they aren't doing "it" up to his standards..... From that auspicious beginning, he has proceeded to be a jerk in at least 80% of the posts I've seen him make.

You? Loosen your collar once in a while, Todd..... it'd do you some good, but I have no problem with you.

    Educating is great.

    Like this:

Traditionally in Scotland, the wearing of eagle feathers in one's cap is a practice that is reserved for people of certain ancestry. The practice is like this....a Chief may wear three feathers ... an armiger of the Clan may wear one.....The definition of an armiger is.....etc. etc.

And so on.....GREAT! I certainly didn't know that, before I started posting on X Marks. It's a wonderful tradition and I wouldn't dream of violating it!

Pontificating like a complete jerk...like this..

I am entitled to wear an eagle feather in MY cap. There are those who wear feathers who don't deserve it. They show up to functions to which I am invited because of my lofty station, but they are fakes. We all know they are fakes, those of us who are "real" eagle-feather-wearers, and those who fake it are nothing but low-class frauds. WE (though probably not you, since you're not a real eagle-feather-wearer) can tell the frauds from the true nobility.

There's a difference between those two things, eh?

YOU...do the former, as do many of our members. A few guys on this forum do the latter.

    Alan,

I have pulled my hose down -- and with hiking boots, no less. I was inspired by our own Freelander and Duncan from Monarch of the Glen to try the look, and while I haven't repeated it in quite sometime, I did do it -- and you'll even find I've posted "evidence" of it.

As for a camo or modern style kilt -- I wouldn't go that far -- just not my style. However, I do wear Aloha shirts and Sperrys "the correct way" -- how's that for "casual"?

Pardon me, there's a Jimmy Buffett song coming up next on my playlist.

You know I've read some of the comments on here and it kind of makes me sick. If I so choose to wear turkey feathers in my bonnet then I will. The United States are a free country and if I am not breaking any laws I will do as I see fit. I am not a posser in any shape form or fashion and from what I am learning the scottish took the tradition from the native americans. If I decide to honnor my ancestors by wearing my feathers (as I have for years) I dare someone to try and stop me. For those who dont like it, well get out your big girl panties and grow up. I fully believe if you are a Chief, Chieftain, or Armiger (funny two of those titles sound very familiar in the native american venacular) you have the right by tradition to wear eagle feathers but so do I as soon as I get my lisence to possess them LAWFULLY.

And you have a sense of humor.......

    No problem with you, Todd.

I write rather bluntly on this forum. I'm a LOT more blunt than I used to be, a few years ago. I think I probably push the rules for being "gentlemanly" a lot. Notice my new "signature".... I wasn't invited to joint the order of the dandelion when it first started up and at this point I'm actually proud of it. There are reasons why I'm a lot more blunt now that I used to be. Oh, and while people probably think I'm sitting here foaming at the mouth and pounding the table, I'm not.

It's an internet forum about kilts, for Gods sake. It's not like this is something that's actually vitally important.

I always, ALWAYS will have space and room for people with different values and opinions....like you and yours. To me, Todd, you can write your mind, straight out. Don't beat around the bush, just write it. Trust in my ability to discern between a differing opinion or a different set of values....

and someone who just plain flat out is being a jerk.

I don't think anybody here will get their panties in a twist if you wear a turkey feather in your cap. You got a few? You want to wear 'em? ........ So wear 'em. Anybody that throws a fit...especially if you inform them that they're turkey feathers, not eagle feathers, really needs to not attend the Games.

    They need day care, instead.

Alan, I wonder if we are talking about the same three or four individuals??
Actually it's just two or three in my case. (not you Todd)
I just put 'em on the ignore list, it's like weed killer for my interweb garden.
