looking for pics of MacDonald of the Isles [Hunting] kilts
Hello, all. I'm trying to decide between a couple of tartans for my first kilt, one being MacDonald of the Isles [Hunting]. I've found precious few pictures of this tartan on XMarks or the Web in general. If any of you have photos you're willing to share, or can point me to some that I might have missed somehow, I'd be most grateful.
Ta.

Hey cousin,
I know its hard to find them pics. I scoured the web and finally ordered my Macdonald of the Isles Hunting Weathered off the swatch.
The good news is Kathy Lare is near finished with it and I expect to have it for pics in a few days, depending on the mail. A couple days ago she was pressing it. So, not long.
There are more pics in my galleries, but here's Macdonald Lord of the Isles Hunting hand sewn by Kathy Lare.

Here's Macdonald of Kingsburgh (Trotternish Peninsula of Skye where my kin came from), also sewn by Kathy Lare.

And here's my USA Kilts semi-traditional in the Macdonald tartan

Will post the Macdonald of the Isles Hunting Weathered pics as soon as it arrives. Its like gray and brown with some red if I remember correctly.

My current favorite kilt is McDonald of the Isles Modern Hunting, I'll dig up some pics if that is the one you want.

Yes, please, David. Any pictures you have would be great.
And thank you, Ron. I'll give you the long version as I'm in awe of the depth to which you've plumbed the roots of your family tree. I decided last fall that, after hemming and hawing about it for many years, I really should get myself a kilt. Being a geek, and of frugal Scots blood, I researched the heck out of it (finding XMarks in the process) before settling on a box pleated kilt by Matt. I put "donations towards a kilt" on my Christmas list and my family came through with flying colors. Now, as to which tartan... My family and I have only managed to trace our MacDonald roots back to a Duncan MacDonald leaving Scotland from a small port near Inverness and settling eventually in PEI. One day, however, I was sporting a MacDonald of the Isles (hunting) tie and my mother says to me "Oh, that's your tartan!" It seems that my father's grandmother had pulled my mother aside very many years ago and showed her a shawl in the same tartan while explaining that it was "the family tartan". That's the extent of my known connection to it. I'm torn between honoring that very tenuous connection to MacDonald of the Isles, and the gorgeous Isle of Skye tartan.

Well, you can't miss with the Isle of Skye...covers your Macdonald branch and probably any clans they intermarried with...

Yes, indeed. One never knows where they will show up.

Thanks, gents.
I've decided to go with Isle of Skye for my first kilt. Aesthetic beauty overcomes tenuous ties. Next time, though, it'll be MotI. Or maybe Hudson Bay. Or County Antrim...

Congratulations on the choice the Isle of Skye is a beautiful tartan, have you thought of the MacDonald of Sleat, or the Dress MacDonald? I have one of each as well as the Isle of Skye.
