Part Review, Part DIY, ALL Craftsmanship
This thread is mostly a review, with a little DIY thrown in, but it has LOTS of pictures, so I thought I'd put it here.
A while back, I had the good fortune of trading handywork with The Thirsty Viking. I recieved a beautiful custom hand carved drinking horn in return for several hundred yards of very carefully tangled wool string.
I plan on taking this thing to highland games and events, so I can alleviate my thirst in style. Knowing that the horn would see quite a bit of travel, I made a case to protect it from damage during transport.
First up, the case- made from a couple of rabbit skins and some deer hide:

I carved the closure piece from a tagua nut:

Now, on to the REAL artistry- Zac's carving.
For the carving's subject matter, I had in mind the Lion of Judah crushing the head of the Serpent. Zac rendered a wonderful image of a Celtic style lion prevailing over a dragon in the Viking style.
Pictures follow here, and in the next post:

Zac created excelent combat imagery.
