    Birthday gifts

I recently celebrated a birthday with my family, and was reminded on how blessed I am with such talented children (3 girls) . There is a WWII history book for my library from my middle daughter since I'm a history buff. The poem is an original from my oldest daughter penned just for my birthday.

The stuff dog was a gift from my wife in college (25 years ago). My kids insist that it go with me whenever I travel, and it's seen many a new land. I hadn't notice that it was missing for over a week, and was surprised when it was re-gifted to me for my birthday - complete with a new kilt, sporran, sporran chain, belt, and sgian dubh. My youngest daughter is always making new things, and decided that my world-traveling mascot needed a new look. I forgot to ask her what tartan that is...

I'll have to find some small kilt hose for the sgian dubh.

    Pleats.

I wasn't able to convince Bart (the dog) to do a "Hamish", but we'll work on it.

    The Pipes

The poem from my oldest daughter (the poet) is as follows:

    The Pipes

    The pipes
    Sweet pipes
    They call to thee
    O're the land
    And o're the sea.
    Run through thy veins
    Sweet tunes do flow
    O're the wind
    Sweet music blow
    The pipes
    Sweet pipes
    Call to thee.
    Music seeped in history
    Music sweet with rain
    The pipes
    The pipes.
    They call to thee.

When your kids give you stuff, it's pretty cool. When they make presents that jive with your passions and personality, it jerks the tears. Congrats on a fine family, sir.
