Antarctica Tartan Cloth Available Now
I know most have seen the pics of the beautiful Antarctica tartan kilt that Barb Tewksbury sewed up a while back (use search if you haven't).
Know some have been interested in owning their own Antarctic tartan kilt.
Just got an email today from the Antarctic Heritage Trust that the fabric is available.
Dear Mr. Macdonald
I now have the [Antarctic] tartan in stock! Perhaps you could let me know exactly how much you would like. It is medium weight [13 ounce] double width. It is £39 per metre. But I can sell it by the yard. Shipping (air mail postage) would be extra.
I look forward to hearing from you.
yours Rachel

The fabric is woven by Dalgliesh Mills. A beautiful tartan for sure.
I'm sure you, or your kiltmaker can obtain it from the Trust or the mill.

Me too. Maybe this tartan will be the "next Isle of Skye" around here.

looks like the exact opposite of the arctic tartan, i guess that's fitting.

Not opposite of the Arctic...can read about both somewhere and see the difference.
Since the seller is a charity maybe those who itemize deductions can consider the cost of the cloth a charitable contribution...? Would reduce the net cost a little bit.

My recollection from a previous thread is that the antarctic is white in the center, with a blue cross, while the arctic is blue with a white cross, because the south pole is on (frozen) land, while the north pole is at sea. But I think the border colors are the same? I don't remember; it's been a while since I looked.
Anyway, that's fantastic news. Now, if I only had a few dollars I could devote to that....

Do they make penguin sporrans?

Just got an email clarification from the Antarctica folks that the cloth is, in fact, 11-12 oz weight, rather than 13oz.
The mill will do a special run of 16 oz fabric but would need a 45 yard minimum order.
My Antarctica tartan kilt is already waiting in line at Kathy's so no need here...guess it'll be the light weight.

UK Antarctic Heritage Trust has actually carried this for several years. I posted the link awhile back, but it's probably buried deep in the archives. The fabric is a DC Dalgliesh weave, in the weight that they weave for dancer's kilts. As Ron says, it's 11-12 oz. Very nice stuff - much nicer than other lightweight tartan, but it is light.
The Arctic tartan is similar but more blue than white. Here's a pic I posted long ago with both tartans (Arctic on left, Antarctic on right).

and on a piper, rather than a dancer:
