BSA and the use of Kilts as Part of the Uniform?
Good Morning Everyone...
Searching for information from anyone who can help.
There seems to be a a fuss sorting in my hometown as to Boy Scouts and Venture Crews wearing Kilts with their Boy Scout/Venture Crew Shirts... and just basically the wearing of a Kilt by a Male Member.
I believe there is supposed to be a Tartan that is assigned to the Boy Scouts of America, is this true?
Is there any rules and regulations, policy or procedures that anyone knows of pertaining to Scouts wearing Kilts?
I am also an Editor on TOPIX for the Town of Colonial Beach, VA; Westmoreland County, VA; and Warsaw, VA.
There has been a flurry of activity on the forum concering one of my Scout Leaders wearing a Kilt.

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/colo...3KCAKVQJBHFEC4 (a poll I started to see what is up)
Please help with info and please check out the TOPIX pages listed and make yourselves and your thoughts about Kilts known.
Thanks for your help,
Masterscout

The topic has come up before, so there's some information available:

I believe we have some kilted Scouts/Scout leaders on the boards, so maybe they can help with specific questions.

Our tartan and clan is Maclaren. One who completes woodbadge can join
Clan Maclaren Society of North America (CMSNA), as I did.
I am drafting plans (and urging) as many woodbadgers to join up with CMSNA at their
local Scottish games during 2010, to celebrate 100 years of Scouting. Stay tuned.
p.s. check out my pics I took during summer camp in S.C. ( kilt pics in various venues)

Hi Masterscout,
As a Woodbadge holder may I welcome you to XMarks from Norfolk, England. There is no tartan registered to the BSA, although there is one registered as Cub Scouts of America.

Good Luck.

Isn't that odd, that there is a tartan registered to Cub Scouts but not to Boy Scouts? You'd expect the other way around if anything. Too bad I wasn't wearing kilts when my kids were in scouts and I did the Webelo Leader/Assistant Scoutmaster thing.

Welcome, and like others I wish I had that opportunity to wear the MacLauren when I was in scouting. But then again, back then we chased dinosaurs with sticks...LOL

Very close to the tartan in the Webelos neckerchief.
A kilt is not an accepted part of the Boy Scouts of America uniform But, Venturing crews vote on their uniform.

Lots of scouts and scouters in Texas wear kilts with the scout shirt. The detractors that have a problem with this should take a pill. You've got to keep scouting interesting or the kids will lose enthusiasm for the program.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
