Popping Kilt Hose
I'm knitting a pair of kilt hose for Mark's kilt for the Prom. I am a beginner knitter so I thought I would try using the Folkwear pattern. I was unsure whether I could actually figure out how to knit them, but so far, so good. I had a hard time finding inexpensive solid-color wool yarn in something to match the Hay Modern tartan, so I compromised by choosing claret and lovat/sage green as the main colors of the argyle. They are really going to pop! The lines on the argyle are going to be yellow and white. The cuffs are solid claret. Any opinions on whether these will be suitable for wearing with the Prince Charlie and the kilt?

From your description you are knitting argyll hose and they are very suitable for a formal occasion. I have been following your threads and you are one very proud and talented mum and Mark is a very lucky young man to have someone like you. Congratulations and all the best with your kilting endeavours. Cheers

Those kinds of hose are perfectly suited for formal occasions! They are actually more suitable than solid colored hose. I can't wait to see pictures!!

I will be sure to post pictures when they are done. I am only half way done with one sock so far, but I am encouraged that they will be okay for him to wear. The last thing I knitted was a simple baby blanket for Mark when he was an infant, so my sister had to remind me how to cast on and knit and purl. I think I goofed when I made the cuff solid red, but it looks cool to me. I just don't know if a true kilt lover will like them.
I am so excited today! I leave for Elsie's Kilt Camp tomorrow. Strathmore replaced the tartan shipment that was lost in the mail and the fabric is beautiful. I cannot wait to sew my first kilt!! The vest is complete and I have the Prince Charlie cut out and ready to sew. This is such a cool experience to make this entire garment for Mark. I'm a lucky Mom.

I was thinking the same thing... Marks Mom needs to become X-Marks's Mom!
On a serious note- the red cuffs on the argyle leg sounds really cool. One thing about kilt wearers is that we strive to be unique. When people ask me why I'm wearing a kilt, I answer "So I can call punks conformists." Those hose will be unique- and that's a good thing. It's why I learned the trade of leather working- so I could make my own sporran! I wanted a sporran as unique as I am, and the only way to totally achieve that is to do it myself, or design it myself, and then pay someone to do it for me! Now I want a pair of solid-cuffed Argyles!!
