need about 10 navy blue kilts for the fire Dept.

ok heres the deal...my brother who ALSO is a firefighter is working on St. Paddy"s day...

well he's convinced the higher up to let the crew wear kilts on said day...but they HAVE to be navy blue in keeping with the uniform.

he's thinking on making ( read having ME make ) them out of cotton (t-shirt or heavier) fabric.
I told him no way will they look decent with that fabric....pleats wont stay ect. so I need to find him an alternative. I hope to find maybe PV or something to that affect. any help would be great!

I need enough fabric to make 10 kilts ranging in size 30" 42"
and they have to be made before the 17th I was thinking hillwalkers ( 5 or 6 deep pleats) would be good and fast and they will have velcro instead of straps ( to speed up the whole process of making them )

I think that the Department heads kept them in limbo on permission till now thinking there would be no way they (the crew) would get something like this put together in time so I want to help prove them wrong!

some of the crew have never worn kilts before and this would be a great way to get 10 more kilties out there!

please help me find the fabric as I can't seem to find ANYTHING on the web via google for fabric ( not really that computer savy I guess)

Navy blue budget kilt here, in acrylic wool. I bought a similar one in my size from this seller. Not the smartest looking kilt in my collection but you can't go wrong at that price and you wouldn't want to spend much more if its possibly going to get damaged at work and might only be worn for one day.

You could always buy the one on e-bay and borrow mine (38" waist, 24" length) and that would be 2 ready made ones for starters, leaving you to build just another 8 from fabric.

ok update.....

looking into the Ebay kilt ( thanks C152) also called O'neile (sp) and he told me about a cotton/poly trigger as he called it from walmart.

looking to keep it cheap as its a one time thing for right now.
however I wonder how fire resistant the cottonpoly is?

it would suck to go fight a fire and have your kilt catch on fire

also I found out I only need 6 ...not 10


I do have a joanns here but as I'm at work and only have a computer to look I figured I would check with the rabble while I sat on my duff! LOL
hopefully the ebay seller has more and can deliver FAST as I REALLY dont want to be sewing when I should be practcing my pipes!

There's got to be a decent Navy blue cotton duck cloth out there. DO you have a Joann's fabric where you are? Perhaps a Hobby Lobby? Or maybe the guy selling the one on Ebay has enough to meet your size and quantity requirements?

How much do you have to spend? I would definitely check with Alan H. The navy poly/cotton material he made my XKilt from was great stuff and very cheap. Keeps pleats very well, and an XKilt is fairly simple to make. If you want help making, as opposed to buying them, send me a PM.

Go to Carr Textiles www.carrtextiles.com They are located in Fenton, MO and this is where I get some of my fabrics.
In the fabrics section look for the 7 - 7.5 oz Poly/Cotton Twill.
It kilts up quite well. Resists wrinkling very well. Is resonable in price (even though you may have to pay $10.00 for a roll-down).

If you're in a hurry and really need them for 2007 rather than '08 SportKilt makes their Boulder model in Navy Blue...but says they're custom and take 2-4 weeks. $125 a pop, but maybe a way to get it done.
