i have a 9 yard traditional kilt and everything is the way i thought it would be, except that there are 2 small black cloth rings on the inside near the hips on the inside of the waist......what are they for?

Without seeing them, hard to say for sure. Probably meant for hanging your kilt when not in use. I don't recommend hanging them though. It's better than lying them flat but turning them inside out and rolling them, being mindful of keeping the pleats straight is my preferred storage method.

Those are the traditional loops that enlisted soldiers would use to hang the kilts overnight on a peg in barracks. Fold the kilt once or twice until the loops are together, then hang. My tank came with two rings as well, which I figured were some kind of hanger. Thanks, Turpin, for the explanation.

My Newsome boxpleat doesn't feature them. But, I have a five yarder that does... I don't use them though.

I cut mine off. Seems they don't ever lay inside the kilt and work their way out.

Do what I did and sew a couple of small pop-studs to the end of the loop, and the lining of the kilt. When popped in place, it's very hard for the loops to creep into view.
