I grew up listening to Rolf Harris, and listened for a spell whilst I was in my late teens.
Unfortunately none of my friends appreciated it despite my efforts to turn them on to it.
I guess my favs would be "In the wet" (living in Oregon I can relate) "Nick A. Teen and Al K. Hall"
But "Johnny Day" is the most interesting musically I think

He did that for a TV show here in Australia, every week the musical bit was "Stairway to Heaven" played by a different type of performer/musical group. Rolf was one of many. I have the collection of them on VHS tape called "Stairways to Heaven". Their was a big band version, a poetry reading, an Elvis version etc.

Another vote for Rolf's take on Stairway To Heaven, which can be found on the CD, "Stairways To Heaven," with 12 of the many different versions of Stairway To Heaven performed at the end of the Aussie show AL-58 was talking about, "The Money Or The Gun." Sadly, the album is out-of-print, but well worth locating if you're into Dr. Demento-type dementia & novelty. I also enjoy The Beatnix's convincingly Beatlesque take on the Zep classic.

Apparently, someone in the US keeps a top 10 list for music at weddings and another for music at funerals. Stairway to HEaven is the only piece that features on both lists. I can only guess the couples haven't read the words before choosing it!
Take care, Graham.

I would say "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport" is probably my favorite but I enjoy most of his stuff overall. I also like "Two Little Boys"
I remember watching his show when I lived in the UK in the late 60s.

Here in the UK the BBC ran a series of programmes entitled "My familt at war" it featured celebrities whose relatives had fought for the allies in WW1, it was a moving series, with many a celeb reduced to tears when they discovered the personal story of their ancestors, often stories that had gone unspoken due to the horendous nature of the conflict.
The last episode feature Rolf, his father was born in Wales, but had emigrated to Australia whilst in his early teens, at the outbreak of WW1 he returned to Britain as part of the Australian army, his younger brother had also signed up, but it was discovered that he was underage, and had to stay in Wales whilst his older brother (Rolf's dad) went to war, eventually the 2 where re-united in the trenches at Somme, they where in different regiments bought both where wounded in the same battle.
Unlike the song "2 little boys" that had a happy ending, Rolf's father never saw his brother again, he died at the end of the war.
This discovery lead Rolf to re-record the song, and he stated quite movingly that it now had a bigger deeper meaning for him.

I didn't know that. It adds much more meaning to the song now.
I listened to it earlier today while I was reading - and stopped to listen to the words as I always do. I've always found it a rather touching song of true comradeship.
