    Harris Tweed Jacket

    Hi all,

I know this has been around before, but I am new to the forum and wanted to add my tuppence.

I have been frustarted at the price of tweed jackets for kilts. I suppose the price is much the same as for a very good quality regular sports jacket. However, the used price for kilt jackets is equally high. Too little supply for the demand.

So, I set about solving the problem myself. I bought on eBay an "as good as new" Harris Tweed jacket with two buttons. Price $15.99 with $10.00 shipping. I took it to my local tailor who makes adjustments. I took along my black Argyle and asked him what he could do. The result, he reduced the length of the jacket to be the same as my Argyle. He couldn't make a sporran cut away becasue of the place of the button. But he did add a third button and hole to make the look better. Price: $45. Total $71. I think the result is a little like the "new style" for Argyle on 21st Century kilts.

Not quite a trad kilt jacket, but really good quality (Harris Tweed) and I was quite pleased.

Hey, I'd love to see it, but the pic is too big.

Can you post a smaller one?

    Apologies

    Yikes,

Didn't realize it was so big!

    Will try to change it.

    Sorry!

I applaud the ingenuity - others here have done the same thing - but it just doesn't look right without the cutaway. Alan H. has built a website with a tutorial on modifying a jacket.

    Indeed, a very nice jacket!

I have no skill for this kind of thing, which is probably good...I'd just mess it up.

    Nice work.
