Is wearing two kilt pins OK?
Just saw a post from Jamie (Panache) showing his new Saltire Airship kilt pin that was gifted by O'Neille. here. . It is very nice and most appropriate but...
Not wishing to hijack the thread, thought I'd post this question here. Jamie mentioned the following:

I fear I've missed something. Is wearing two pins a BAD thing? I know a piper (a Scots Bloke) who does it all the time. Cairngorm stone brooch type above, Sword and clan-badge type below. I think it looks good. What do you think? Please forgive me if I'm treading over old ground. It's the fresh interaction that drives me to post rather than search.

I've certainly seen it done -- take a look at the vintage pix thread, for example -- not that necessarily means it *should* be done.
Personally, I'd opt for one at a time (or one pin per kilt, per Hamish's Rules of Kilting), but if you have a combo that looks good together, I'd say go for it.

They are not rules, unless you are wearing uniform: They are conventions. By all means break the conventions, but before you do its best that you know what the conventions are and whether you might make yourself look foolish.
Two kilt pins is unconventional but it would not be the biggest sartorial breach of conventions ever committed.
Then again why do you want to do it? Presumably because you think it will look good. The question is: Will it? Or will it look like you don't know how to dress and have thrown everything in your jewelery box at your wardrobe and walked out in what stuck?
Somewhere in there is the fine line of judgment.
Personally I'm a complete tart and have more silver bits that you can shake a stick at but I do stick to the conventions.

And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

There are no rules, and there are no Kilt Police.

That's just what they want you to believe.

No one expects the Kilt Police!

I have one kilt I've designated my "punk show" kilt. It was cheap to begin with, and it now has a few holes in it and the selvage is a bit tattered in places... On this kilt, in place of a kilt pin, I have a few 1/2 inch punk rock "buttons" (some examples can be seen here and here). Even though it is a "punk" kilt, and punk is primarly anti-fashion and frequently breaks established fashion "rules," I have confined the pins to a cluster approximately 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide... about the same area covered by some kilt pins.
I wear this kilt with band tees, a studded belt, a sporran with studwork on it, Doc Martens (Black with white laces), and either a jean jacket or nylon bomber if the weather calls for it.
This is an extremely casual look, and the only time I'd wear multiple kilt pins.

There Are No Kilt Pin Rules

Nooo, Mr. Beertigger... the rules were made to prevent the unknowing from making a terrible mistake. Only when there are no rules can one pretty much do as they please with impunity.
Kilt pins are a good example. One or none, or more is perfectly okay. They can be worn more or less on the corner of the outer apron, or up higher, toward the waist. It's a matter of personal "style" and how many you wear is really down to that elusive thing called "good taste".

I have worn 2 but thay are rather small. one a work (15 year) pin and another. the 2 make a grouping smaller than 2" sq. keeping the pins small (it is what I have) makes it work for me. tho not plastered with pins, just 2....maybe 3 tops....BAW
