    Just One Mans Opinion

With the new changes in the look of the forum, I've seen some troubling reactions from valid complaints; reactions that demean those who post their honest and heartfelt opinions.

When some stated that the new look is not attractive (I believe I said and would still say "plain and ugly"), we're told that it's a "cleaner look." Honestly, can you really say Puritan grey is better than tartan?

When others said that the screen was too bright, we're told that we're seeing things and assured that a test has been done and that this screen is actually darker than the old one. Again, our opinions are dismissed as imagining the screen is brighter, you see?

When many have said they miss the old look and don't care for the new, they are dismissed with, "It's fairly obvious from other threads that a lot of people have trouble with handling change." You see, it's not that we have a valid point. Our point is not valid; we simply don't like dealing with change.

IMHO, one should be able to express their opinions as long as they fall within the guidelines of the owner of the forum.

Anyway, this is just one priest's opinion and it probably doesn't count for much. In the end, it's up to the owner what his forum looks like, and no one is forcing me to visit the forum, but I thought I should express it since I've been a member here for five years.

I understand what you're saying, Scotus; sometimes it is nettles for wild swans around here, though... Out there in the real world, even more so...

I have no idea what you can do about it, and I suppose we are, most times, looking at the same issue from different sides. I suppose we could all try to post with an ethic of positive reciprocity.

It's brighter because the background is a uniform grey rather than the Xmarks tartan. You know what, it'd be cool to have a rotating tartan background...every week, or every month, or day, pick a random tartan from a database and that's the background to load.

I'm pretty sure Loud MacLeod would raise a ruckus.

I'm sorry, but I have a bit of a problem with what you are insinuating here--

I for one, have continued faith in the honesty and integrity of the leadership here, and I think that your accusation is unfounded and serves no purpose other than to cause scandal.

Of course there is nothing wrong with voicing opinions, but are we not adults here? Do we not conduct ourselves with dignity?

I think it's necessary for all of us to remember that these are real people that we are talking about and not just an avatar with a username.

Apart from you bringing it up, can you please quote which members have lost their faith in the honesty and integrity of the leadership? I have read many posts from members who are not happy with the changes, but I have not read anything to say that the leadership is dishonest.

Unless you have evidence that you can share, I think you have crossed a line here.

    Regards

    Chas

Well, Scotus, I'm not sure where this thread is going...

However, I can imagine that some of my posts cause you some, and others, some discomfort. It's a difficult line to walk. When you do express opinions that bother me, I will do my best to understand that I too express opinions and views that may bother you and others. I'm really not sure what else to do.

Sometimes you have to come up for air.

Look...I miss the tartan, I think it's brighter, I was used to the old layout...

...the reality is that all of that is cosmetic and the most important thing about the forum is that I get to read posts by all of you...what the appearance or format is: not so important as the content. I'm not going to confuse the two.

I am sure that the current administration is making every effort to keep the good and improve the marginal....I understand that the New Big Cheese has an engineering background, so I trust that he'll do what engineers do and do it right.

You can please most of the people some of the time
And some of the people most of the time
But some of the people you can't please none of the time.

And if you try to please everyone, you invariably please no one...least of all yourself.

I'm here and you're all here and that's all I care about...I'll live with any inconveniences just for the pleasure of your company, the joy I get from your collective wit and the intellectual stimulation that I get from your varied perspectives. Not to mention the photos.....

    Best

    Hothir Ethelnor,

Instead of highjackeing another persons post to pose your question? Will you please post your question directly to me on the forum under your own name.
