Where was the best place you lived?
Where was the best place you lived? And why?
Things like location, people, surroundings and such.

For me, it was always the want to be near a mountain area. Second was near family.
So far it has been Colorado and Northern Arizona.

For me it has to be Northern New Hampshire (Jackson-North Conway) in the midst of the White Mountains. Gorgeous country, great family and wonderful friends and neighbors. I was never happier.

Though I've never "lived" in that area, I've spent countless weeks there vacationing (still go back every year), and couldn't agree more. If there was any kind of I.T. work there for me, I'd definitely move there.
Of the places I have actually lived, I'd put Sitka, Alaska right at the top of the list. I served there at the Coast Guard Air Station. I was helo flight crew, (HH-3F avionicsman) in 1981-82. Gorgeous place to spend a couple years, and the Coast Guard gave me opportunities and the means (helicopter) to see the most spectacular aspects of the area.

Up in northern Ontario, off the beaten track, at a family encampment after a day's canoeing. Small presqu'ile, other than the campfire no lights, comfortable.
Telling stories around the fire, remembering old days, old ways.
Pipes would have made, sublime.

I was very lucky growing up on the banks of Loch Lomond, with Drymen, Luss and the ben mere minutes from our front door. I'd have to say the best place is where I am now though, beautiful rural Dorset, seaside and countryside, the best of both.

My personal favourite was just four miles along the coast from you, living in Troon, waking up in the morning to a view of the ships sailing on the Firth of Clyde and the distant Arran Hills.
Now that I am retired I would happily move back there if I could afford to.
Since I last lived in Troon over 30 years ago the M77 motorway to Glasgow has been built and the railway has been electrified so what was once a full hour's commute can now be done in little over half the time and houses on the Ayrshire coast have become very expensive with the new trend of living at the coast and working in the city.
