There are basically six ways to pleat the X Marks Tartan.
I think it has been made into kilts pleated to everything but to "No Stripe".
Here is the pleating sampler I did up a while ago. This was a Kilt Kamp and I think I remember showing everyone this. I keep it rolled up and surprise everyone as it unrolls to show the difference in the look with the different pleating options.
L to R To the Sett, To the Gray Stripe, To the Yellow Stripe, To the White Stripe.

I have two kilts in our XMTS tartan, one pleated to the yellow stripe and the other pleated to the white stripe. Both look very nice, the yellow is obviously far more subtle looking. I am pleased with both looks. That said it really is best that the one that draws your eye and you think is handsomest is the right one for you.
