    Pleating X Marks

When pleating X Marks the Scot tartan, which do you think would look better, pleated to the narrow yellow stripe, or pleated to the wide white strip?

There are basically six ways to pleat the X Marks Tartan.
I think it has been made into kilts pleated to everything but to "No Stripe".

Here is the pleating sampler I did up a while ago. This was a Kilt Kamp and I think I remember showing everyone this. I keep it rolled up and surprise everyone as it unrolls to show the difference in the look with the different pleating options.

I quite like to the yellow stripe. That's just my personal opinion though.

What would be the best box-pleat style. Please forgive my ignorance.

    BB,

I have two kilts in our XMTS tartan, one pleated to the yellow stripe and the other pleated to the white stripe. Both look very nice, the yellow is obviously far more subtle looking. I am pleased with both looks. That said it really is best that the one that draws your eye and you think is handsomest is the right one for you.

    Cheers

There really is no "best" or "worse". There is your personal preference which may be different from someone elses.

Here is the X Marks Tartan box-pleated to the Yellow Stripe.

Question for you Steve. I spotted a video on you-tube titled, "Glasgow Bagpipers". The photo below is a "snip-et" of the young gents kilts. I expect your description in this thread could recreate this pattern using the X Marks tartan. How much material do you believe it would take to do that. I won't ask about how much time.

No, I'm sorry but this kilt you have seen is called the Saltire kilt.
The fabric is actually woven so that when you pleat the X appears.
This is done with a Jacquard loom process.

I don't have any pics of the fabric for the Saltire kilt but do of the Rampant Lion kilt which is woven the same way.
