I have been on the fence for quite some time as far as doublets, I'm not really a prince charlie kind of guy, and Ill get my pic up here soon, but I have to ask....what does that look like.....Without the belt being worn with? I am aware that it is traditionally worn with...but I'm just curious is all.

I looks like the belt is missing. ;)

No, his belt is over the doublet.....unless I'm missing some joke of some sort. Sorry, humor tends to fall on my shoulders rather than landing in my ears as of late.

There are different doublets, some are worn with and others without the belt. I'm sure that Nathans doublet would look like the belt is missing, if it were worn without the belt.

Durrr....sorry, too much gin, not enough tonic on my part. I didn't read the whole thing, or I just needed to re-read it. I was just wondering Nathan how it would look belt off. Amazing Doublet by the way....cheers!

Nice to see variety.

Although I would prefer coloured or grey, I have one black Argyll because, like many, I wear full traditional rig too rarely to get much use out of both formal and informal variants, black was more readily available second hand and I wanted to ensure I could cover black tie equivalent balls, evening weddings etc. It is nice to be reminded that coloured jackets are perfectly traditional for formal events too.

I understood your question. Like I said before, with the belt off, the doublet would look as if the belt was missing. It really needs it, in my opinion.

I purchased it from our own CmcG who purchased it on ebay if I'm not mistaken.

Although the belt is normally worn over a closed doublet, in this picture I am wearing the belt under the old archer-green Kenmore-style doublet with the buttons undone. This was more for comfort than style as the venue was rather warm.

As a rule of thumb - buttoned up, the belt goes over the doublet; unbuttoned, the belt goes under the doublet. Doubtless people will identify exceptions to this.
