Bottle Green vs Black jackets - my opinion
I recently acquired a PC in time for this years Marine Corps Ball in Denver. I decided to order the outfit in Bottle Green rather than the more traditional Black. And, I am really happy I did. Of course the Black is probably more traditional but with my Crawford tartan the new combination is just stunning !

IMHO, I would offer that anyone who has a dominate green in their tartan to seriously consider the Bottle Green in the next jacket they acquire. You will not be disappointed.

Pictures?
But I agree, black tends to be overused.

PICTURES! lol....I see I didn't need to say it...but yeah, I've been thinking there's enough green in my Buchanan tartan that bottle green would go very nicely. I'm looking at green socks and jackets and I put a little bit of green in the first sporran I made...I don't anticipate being invited to anything nearly so formal that it would require black. I think I'll get more use from a green one although I am sure eventually I'll get black too...

My PC is bottle green and I love it. The slight difference from most people in the crowd is refreshing and never once in all the events I've attended ( and I've attended a bunch ) has anyone kilted or otherwise had anything but compliments to offer.

So true! Black is over-used, and it transforms a gathering of Highlanders (who are supposed to have a love of colour) into a mass of black.
In fact, in this 1936 catalogue, black isn't shown at all for Evening Dress

tartan vest w/PC
I think the Gent (second from left) wearing the green PC jacket with a tartan vest is smashing as well as very creative, in spite of his sporran being a bot TOO low (ouch?). Wonder how much a vest like that costs in tartan?
BTW, I have a photo of my new outfit but have ask Steve for help posting it. I'll have more info soon as I have something to say!

You can check with J Higgins... as I recall having a waistcoat done up in tartan isn't all that expensive.
Yes I really like that illustration! A rather more formal "take" on the Prince Charlie, with lace jabot and tartan waistcoat. Lovely!

worn to a Ball in the summer. Nothing but compliments, I stood out in a sea of black Tuxedos. I might even pair it with my Saffron kilt for the next Ball in the winter
