For years I wore a chain for both day and formal wear, but I now wear a leather strap for day wear.

I prefer the nice leather straps for the everyday wear. One less thing to worry about for my kilt.

Leather straps only. Don't like the look of the chains.

I buy 1 inch wide brown and black leather belts with a plain silver buckle. You need to make sure they are large enough to hang down and have a hole or two for adjustment. For my MOJO leather Rob Roy I have a braided leather belt that looks quite rustic with the bag. Not big on chains or the look of them.

My sporran strap is mostly all leather mystery braid with a few rings and rivets, everything is checked snag free.
It was a goodwill find in the women's belt area.

I picked up a very nice purse strap that doubles as a sporran strap from the Salvation Army.

I tend to wear leather straps, chains only rarely and then only with a formal sporran. The leather straps have come from Robert Pel at RKilts. In addition to regular straps, he also makes a woven sporran strap that will roll on the fabric of the kilt rather than tugging or pulling. I like it a lot:

JohntheBiker, that is a nice looking strap! I did a quick google search for Rkilts, and can't find an online store. It appears to be a Canadian store?

Although I almost always use sporran hangers, I too have Robert's braided straps, both black and brown. I find them to be dressy enough for the more formal occasions and more interesting looking than most chains or a plain strap.
