    I tend to wear leather straps, chains only rarely and then only with a formal sporran. The leather straps have come from Robert Pel at RKilts. In addition to regular straps, he also makes a woven sporran strap that will roll on the fabric of the kilt rather than tugging or pulling. I like it a lot:
