Museum
Hi,
For anyone following this thread, here’s a small update. I’ve contacted the museum at Ft. George and hope to hear from them soon. Drum Major’s sporran has been suggested a few times so I’m interested to find out if it is indeed. I had thought the sporran seemed too new and therefore not good enough quality for an officer’s sporran but having seen a couple for sale, one only this week, I’m starting to think otherwise. Combined with the belief that the sporran has only ever had one cantle and that this cantle has never been altered, it leaves me completely flummoxed. Awaiting word from the museum with great anticipation !!!

I'm late to the party! I almost never look in the misc forum, this ought to be moved to the military forum, I think.
Anyhow the OP has no photo, and I'm in the dark as to what sporran is being talked about.
But here is an Officer's sporran of the Liverpool Scottish, I do believe, which might be mistaken for a Cameron Highlanders sporran, especially if the badge got switched.

Welcome!
Hi, and thanks for joining the party. I found a very blurry image of this online and it is indeed as close as I’ve seen to what I’ve got. The cantle has a different engraving to the edge but mine could be a Liverpool Scottish from a different manufacturer, with a switched badge. It does beg the question why on earth would someone go to all this trouble?! Would a soldier be allowed to wear such a thing?
The museum at Fort George got back to me to say they’ve never seen one like it, so I guess I just need to accept that it’s just plain weird.
As I said before, I’ve kind of gone off it now that I know it’s not an official variation so maybe I’ll be able to find a crazy Cameron that would be keen on it for their collection.
Or maybe I’ll start my own ‘wierd’ collection. You should see the ‘KOSB’ one that’s appeared on my radar. No sign of anything like it anywhere...
Cheers!

The Liverpool Scots sporran can’t be mistaken for Cameron or QOHighrs, not even remotely close. I am glad you received a solid answer from the museum, they are the foremost uniform authority on the Highlanders and the antecedent regiments (except the Gordons). There is a possibility that the sporran could belong to one of the commonwealth regiments allied with the Camerons or QOHldrs, always an avenue worth looking at.

Worth a try
That did occur to me and I looked all the Canadian regiments I could think of. I’ll look into that further for countries I haven’t yet researched. Thanks.
