Uh-oh, Short term job assignment

I am so happy for you! India is IMHO the most interesting, varied, even magical country in the world. I try to go there every couple of years, and hope to live there some day. Last night the movie "Gandhi" was on TV. It was filmed there, for the most part, and brought it all back. Much of India has changed relatively little in 60 years.

Will it be your first time there?

I don't know where you would find kilts in India, but if you have time you might pop over the border to Sialkot, Pakistan, where most of the inexpensive kilts, sporrans and other gear come from. I understand that there are quite a few manufacturers of dirks, skene dubh, claymores and other weaponry in and around Dehra Dun, a very pleasant city in the north, only a few hours by a comfortable express train from Delhi. (They can be located with a websearch. I have some sites, if you can't find them.) It and a British hill station nearby, Musoorie, are well worth a visit anyhow. It's where the Brits went to get away from the heat on the plains, and is comfortable all year round. As they say, it sits at the feet of the Shivalak mountains, which sit at the feet of the Himalayas, and they sit at the feet of God.

I have never been to Hyderbad and am not sure what men wear there---dress varies across the subcontinent----but usually the further into the country you go, the less you see western clothes. If you want to blend in, you might wear a lunghi, a simple cotton wrap-around with the excess cloth folded into pleats. They are often white, sometimes blue and white plaid or other colors, and very comfortable, even moreso than kilts. They are worn with a kirta, a long, very cool, cotton shirt. Or if you are adventurous, you might try wearing a dhoti.

There are internet cafe all over India, even in some of the smallest towns, since fewer Indians own their own computers than happens in the West, so being able to keep in touch should be no problem.

Also, BTW, there are many places where one can download (or is it upload?) photos from a digital camera, at least in the cities.
