    Bear Down, Arizona

As described in another thread, Hamner and I were playing around with ideas for a University of Arizona tartan. UA's colors were, for many years, red and white, and then around the early 90's, they added blue for some reason. So, here are three ideas for a Wildcat tartan... which one do you like?

    Number 1

    Number 2

And, last but not least, Number 3

Have to vote Number 2. Although the difference between 1 and 2 is not that noticeable--I had to look at each several times to appreciate the subtleties. Did you think about a black stripe? I know it's not one of the official colors but would look good. Or maybe grey.

    Another vote for number 2.
#1 just too in your face, too much red.
#2 the additional blue tones down the red.
    #3 yikes! Too busy.

Might I also suggest going deeper ones for red and blue. Or seach out an existing tartan, Hamilton (yeah I know thats the USCG tartan and you're all Navy) of American Heritage (black is most predominant). Both availiable from USAKilts. There is alway the Arizona State tartan.

I like #2 but would like to see a larger set of maybe charcoal or do the red and blue and use the white as the bisecting color every other of the smaller set. I only spent 7 years at U of A never got a degree there though. O'Neille

Well, I like the first one better, it reminds me of the old block A for some reason. Hard to tell from a swatch.

Also, I remember the blue as more of a navy blue than a royal? Or is it my monitor...?

You can also get a University of Arizona tartan in solid navy from the Utilikilts folks mocker model.

I never went to U of A but I sent buckets of money there for my daughter's classes and spent a lot of time on campus in the cap and gown business in the early 1970s.

You're getting there....... of these so far, I also like #2.

    But keep at it!

You'll soon find one, which will just seem right, regardless of what we say!

Of the 3, I like number 2 the most. My only suggestion would be to make some of the blue lines thicker. I just like distinctive squares (think MacGregor and Loud MacLeod).

I also like the second choice, as for the Arizona state tartan I think that is to coppery to be used. Maybe you can come up with a ASU tartan also.
