Well, my girlfriend was named for Spock's mom, and she owns the TNG DVD set, so I guess I better start looking into transporters!

Actually, there's a book out with that very title! It's a very good read, if you can find a copy.

Can you tell I have watched entirely too much Star Trek in my day.

As a member of the "Gamma Ray Club" back in my college days, a daily dose of the original ST series was a requirement (TNG was a long way off at this point).

I think the TNG bridge would be the better design for a theatre...the chairs were certainly more comfortable.

That one should always check the invasive species list before adding to the ecosystem... even if it is pretty. See Trumpet Vine as an example.

There are actually 2 such theaters I know of. One is this guy who recreated everything.

Then there is this guys room who includes actual props from the real star trek shows. He bought many of the items from Christie's Auction House over many years. Most of it has been sitting in storage until he finally could afford to build the whole room.

Part of the original idea was a female captain. The networks nixed that but the story line was kept. Part of the idea behind the story is the balance between "irrational" and "rational", "Logic" and "Illogic". Kirk was intended to portray the feminine aspects of irrational, emotional and illogical, Spock was the counter to that.

Fascinating how it all worked out. It's also part of the reason the original series seems to work better than the rest.
